I would've kindly pointed out to the officer what the sign says and continued on with my walk. You were doing nothing wrong. That kind of stuff makes my blood boil. Sorry

I agree 100%!! The sign gave you permission and I would have pointed it out to the cop & then I would have left to keep down pressure on our breed. JMO.

IMO this is just one more reason to have our pitties obedience trained. If the dog were walking at a nice heel, even on on a loose leash, it would not have been pulling toward the kids & thus would not have not scared those jelly-backed parents in the first place.

    JMHO ...

This thread is old but let me just say one thing in my dogs defense...he is obediance trained and is a therapy dog...On a WALK I see no reason to have a dog on a heel, its supposed to be fun, not structured.

You are 100% correct, walks are supposed to be fun, but in the current climate it would be wise to demonstrate complete control around the ignorant and easily frightened John Q. It may not be fair but it is the only way IMO to get through this hail storm of fear of these dogs. However it is your choice, your dog.....my only advice would to be choose wisely.

I just don't get people...When i see an apbt, i'll be the first one to greet the dog. I don't understand why people are so ignorant.....

which park was it? I suddenly have an urge to go walking in the park with my boyfriend and our dogs...I'll be damned if anyone tells us we have to leave b/c of the breed we have.

We should plan a weekend Jean and go with all four dogs...It was redwood park..that was almost a year ago also....probably better now!

Just wondering for future reference, but can a fop make you do that ven if the sign clearly states that all dog breeds welcome when on a leash???

Legally no, a cop cannot make you leave if the sign states all breeds are welcome, however a cop can make things look as though you and your innocent dog are the problem, thus putting your animal at risk.....choose your battles wisely, we as PB owners have a war to win. You can respectfully explain that the dog is a service dog and is obedeience trained and you are fully aware of your reponsibilities as a PB owner, if that does not move that particular law officer I would move on because it is a battle you will not win. On the other hand I would note his bade number and write a letter to his superiors explaining the situation in your quest for a fair shake.

Definately...Some people are so dumb. Asking you to leave, just because of the breed you own. Idiots.

Like i said this was a long time ago..i was surprised to see the thread reopened...he was maybe 6 months old when that happened and I had ran into the officer again and he had apologized. But yeah, Jean, PM me and we'll set up a day to go walking

That is very cool the Officer apologized!!!! I gave up walking in crowded areas for this very reason, no matter where I was I would look over my shoulder and there would be a cop car.....saying he had gotten reports of a viscous dog siting, I corrected them and said what you have is PB siting...it isn't very fair is it!

Good to hear he apologized...I can't believe they were afraid of a 6 month old pup...

NC - I agree walks should be fun. But there is a time & place for everything. For example, when my dogs are in JQP's eye, they are in a heel on almost all walks. But if we are out in the woods alone, I let them walk freely.

I do this just to avoid the very thing that happened to you - to keep one of my dogs from being accused of "lunging" at anyone or anything.

Besides, walking at a heel isn't like it's torture or anything. My dogs seem to like going on walks be it at a heel or not.

But either way, I'm glad the officer apologized - he probably was embarrassed to even have to say anything to you. But his hand was probably forced by the mob of paranoid soccer moms at his back. :(

I did not read through this whole thread. Only the first and last few posts.

However right before I read of NC dog park troubles I had just finish reading another post on Ch. Luther (great dog, great story of some great matches).

Am I missing something???? Folks post about a dogs prowness in the pit and then wonder "why" someone is asked to leave a park???? (I fully understand the details about the cop asking the guy to leave and how our dogs were never breed to bite humans etc. etc. etc....)

But does anyone else see the irony about posting how a dog dismantles other dogs and then being upset because a dog was asked to leave a public park??????????

You can't "have your cake and eat it too"

in all honesty isn't that the difference between a petbull and a game-dog? some people have one or the other while others have both. as long as they distinguish the difference and treat the dogs accordingly, there shouldn't be any problems. know your dog and don't put it in compromising positions where it may hurt you and the breed as a whole. im sure ablizin and abk have totally different intentions on their dogs and to me one is not superior to another. abk helps out our fight with bsl with his well behaved dog. abk's cake, although the lining is the same, has different innards than ablizin's.

Davidlua: I understand and validate your point. However, the other 99.9% of the population wouldn't know the difference between NC's dog and the Luther dog and certainly has no idea of the concept.

Also, 99.999999999% of our beloved breed NEVER EVER gets matched! But, we all want to come on here and talk about it... then wonder why people get asked to leave the park!

I'm to the point now where I try and walk the dog before the sun comes up or after it goes down...don't want funny looks when she's straining at the end of her leash w/ slober flyin all over. If she wants to tug and be a nut and run to the end of her leash and fly off her feet every 2 minutes, I'll let her. I just won't be going to parks with her, or to the pet store, etc etc.

Easier on me if I don't put myself in that position where I might have to worry about what some jerk-off or idiot is going to say or ask when my dog is being a dog.

I would understand your point if the poster of this thread also posted the Luther thread, but since it was two different people, and I don't even believe she has replied to the Luther thread. I don't see how the OP is wanting to have her "cake and eat it too."...
