She's to old to get her ears clipped. I do not really understand the question about the ped. Do you know who her parents are. If so are they registered with any registry. The way it sounds you probably will not be able to get a ped. It really does not matter unless you are going to breed her , which I hope is not the case. Just have her fixed and love her as a pet. As for getting her in shape. I would just start hand walking her as much as possible and get a flirtpole.

Leave it to nature and she'll be pregnant soon. Please do the responsible thing and have her spayed. We're up to our ears in unwanted puppies.

A flirt pole is like a cat's fishing pole toy. Mine is a dowel rod with about 3 feet of rope attached to the end. Some people make them longer if they have more space. You can make the pole out of wood, PVC pipe, whatever. Then just attach rope to the end.

You can tell what bloodline(s) she may have in her if you've got her pedigree. Without it, you can't really even call her an american pitbull terrier because you have no proof that she is even "full-blooded". This makes breeding out of the question. To put forth a litter worthy of status above "pound puppies", one would have to match the dog with a mate that compliments them in terms of dogs in their pedigree and characteristics that you desire in the litter. If lacking a pedigree doesn't deter you from breeding, then I suggest you pause and give yourself sometime to learn about this breed before making such serious ethical, moral and financial choices.

You've got to make a flirtpole on your own. Some would suggest that using a flirtpole can be very dangerous. It can be. Chimerakennels.com has a video on their use and plans to build one. It's relatively easy, all you need is pvc and rope. At her age (10 months), you may want to stick with handwalking and swimming.

Use the search button to look up past discussions about nutrition (what food to feed my pup?), spaying/neutering (will she get fat after?), exercise (how do I get my dog ripped?) and general health concerns (what kind of flea and tick preventative should I use?). Just about every question you can think of this early in the game has been answered time and time again, so use the search. Have fun and spellcheck.

Not only is she too old to get her ears clipped, she has GREAT looking ears. Very nice looking dog overall. IMO , the base way to condition a dog is leash walking. The more the better for both of you, at least 3 miles a day. Then you can go to running, biking with your dog, swimming, ect. ect. There are a million ways to condtion a dog.

Very nice looking dog again, I really like her. But for Godsakes, PLEASE don't breed that dog, or "leave it to nature". There is a huge overflow of poorly bred, unwanted Pitbulls in the world. Out of 50 dogs you might see on the street, maybe one is breeding quality. Only the tip-top best dogs should be bred. That is one reason the breed is in a real crisis right now, too many non-breeding quality dogs being bred by inexperenced owners. And if this is your first dog, AND first Pitbull then you have no bussiness thinking about breeding.

Please tell me why using a flirt pole can be dangerous, findrodhere? Would the danger be from the dog leaping too high? Or what exactly?

I made one with half-inch pvc pipe and a clothesline. I ran the clothesline down to the pipe and left about 2 feet slack. I tied an old stuffed toy to the slack and then tied knots in the other end to keep the rope from being pulled through when the dog grabbed the chew toy... total cost, exclusive of the chew toy...$7.50. A lot cheaper than anything from Petco.
I love your dog's ears also. You'll learn to like their natural ears also. She is a really pretty dog.

I also think she has amazing ears. She also has clear, amber eyes which I LOVE. She's gorgeous. She should be spayed though, she looks older, how old is she?

Your dog could land wrong. I'm sure you've seen it almost happen, dogs jumps twists and almost grabs the rope and then drops. I looked for the discussion I had with someone on here about it's dangers, but to no avail, I could not find it. I believe it was STPFAN that told me about the dangers (but i'm not sure).

    1. Waaaaay to old to get her ears clipped.

    2. A "pit" is nothing more than a hole in the ground. And there is only 1 kind of American Pit Bull Terrier. As far as getting a ped on her, her parents had to have been registered & the previous owner/breeder should've given you her paperwork to fill out & turn in to whatever registry he used. Without a pedigree from an honest, knowledgable, reputable owner/breeder you don't even know for sure if your dog is an APBT much less what bloodlines (chances are it's so scatterbred it's nothing more than a byb special).

    3. Leaving your dog intact & "up to nature" will produce about 80+ more mutts (since ped isn't known) & people like me will have to come & clean up the mess they leave behind & probably have the pleasure of lying to them telling them they were loved as I have to kill them since no one wanted them. nature doesn't always do the right thing......if it did, Hurricane Katrina wouldn't have happened & I wouldn've have had a tree fall on my house killing 5 dogs.

    4. As far as condidtion goes, use the search button located on the 2nd toolbar & type in the keywords (1 at a time): conditioning, springpole, exercise, nutrition, etc.

  11. Rod, buddy, I believe you are thinking spring pole not flirt pole. The dogs are not never meant to "catch" the end of the flirt pole. It is use as a tease only. Spring poles on the other hand should be maintained low enough to secure both hind legs to the floor. Meaning, the dogs should not be hanging while holding the end of the spring pole.

I gotcha. I'm still talking about the flirtpole. When whipping the flirtpole around the dogs tend to jump for it. The tend to fall at odd angles sometimes. I'm just saying, "watch out," it's a great tool for exercise, but it can cause harm to the dog.

Nice looking dog, but don't bother breeding her if you don't even have proof if she's purebred. Also, her choke chain is on backwards in the first two pics. Try this site for info on fitting choke chains: http://www.healthyhappydogs.com/Article.ChokeCollarTraining. Does she wear a choke 24/7? I'd suggest putting her on a flat nylon collar, I've talked to a few different owners who've had their dogs get stuck on something and choke to death because of the chain. It doesn't always happen, but there is the possibility.

Agreed. You should keep the flirt pole close to the ground and let the dog chase after it as if it were prey. Flinging it in the air would encourage the dog to jump which can possibly harm the dog.
Keep it low and drag it on the ground to reduce the risk of the dog getting possible injuries from jumps.

Ped or not, a dog who hasn't proved itself in some way or another is not breeding material.

Your dog is way to old to have her ears cropped. Why would you possibly leave her intact? It reduces the chances of an accidental pregnancy, reduces the chances for various cancers, and stops the mess associated with intact females. There is only one type of "pit"- The American Pit Bull Terrier. Without a pedigree from a responsible, ethical breeder there is no way to know or tell if your dog is purebred. Get her fixed, love her, and don't worry about a ped.
