I am looking to buy a good collar. From experience, who has the best? Thanks in advance for any info.

The only place that I have bought my collars from is www.collarmania.com They are opening on Monday. They can do a lot of stuff with their collars. To see the collars that I have bought from them click on the link in signature and then click on the tab that says pics of my dogs collars. I really like their work.

Blocky dogs is another one that I have seen work from that I liked. But I will always buy from www.collarmania.com

I personally got a collar from Stillwater kennels. A really nice collar, the best I've ever seen and the price (even with shipping) was WAY lower than the junk you can get from PetCo or any major chain pet store. They have a link on this site. The quality is very nice...
I know that there are people on this site that have their favorite suppliers. I just wanted a nice quality collar, not a fancy one and Still water has really nice ones. I've seen your pics of collars from collarmania, but it is hard to tell how heavy duty the collars are from pictures. I know some people like really fancy collars, custom collars. I just wanted a nice everyday collar without busting the bank account. I am sure other members have their favorites also...

  6. I agree, those are really nice collars.

  7. Yeah, I agree....Stillwater and O'brians are the best that we have ever come across! They both have excellent quality!

Blocky dogs collars are nice, but really I cant see spending that kind of money on a collar just to look good, when you could buy 4-5 of Stillwaters collars that are of the same strength. O breins, Stillwater, bulldog supply, sporting dog collars, wade davis, dixie dog products, all great products...Stillwaters are about 1/2 the price of those. There are links to kennel equipment in the links section of the site if you'd like to browse for yourself.

Most of those collars look pretty great, but why in the world would you put a weighted collar on your dog?

If u can get out to a bulldog show (adba, aadr, etc) they have nice collars. I have gotten both of mine there, one for 12$ and one for 6$. It depends on what type u get, they had nice 2inch leather collars for 8$.

What are you looking for? Leather or Nylon? Plain collar or fancy custom collar.

I make both, but if you want a strong nylon collar in one color - check out Stillwater on this site.

If you want something with studs or custom carving - I make those.

Thanks for all of the replys. I also heard good things about Stillwater. I wanted to order the 2" 4ply collar, when I went to order I didn't see anything about sizes so I didn't order one yet. Do they just have a standard size or what? My dog has a 16" neck now and is 11mths old. I won't order until I know more about the sizes. If you have any input on this I would appreciate it. Thanks

    Here's how I size mine.

    2" fits 15"-22" neck size

    1.5" fits 13"-20" neck size

    1" fits 10'-17" neck size

For a full grown dog with 16" neck, I would recommend a 2" velcro-end collar.

    Thanks,

    Shane

Hmm, I got a two inch collar. I measured my dog's neck and it is 17 1/2 inches. she wears it on the fifth hole. I suppose I should have gotten velcro on the end for the loose tail. I suppose I could apply some velcro myself. But the collar is really great.
The loose end doesn't flop around because the collar has double keepers. There is a pic of it in my gallery. Blue weighs about 55 pounds. She should probably be a little thinner, but she is a great beggar and sorta spoiled. I don't have to worry about this collar breaking like the junk from the pet store...that is way overpriced for the quality. I got a Stillwater collar because of recommendations on this site.
If I ever decide to blow money on a custom fancy one I'll go to Hoyden. I've seen pictures of hers and they look great. obviously someone likes collarmania...lol. But I have no personal experience of them. If you get one let us know if you are happy.
Take a picture and post it...we love pictures of everything.

Why would anyone put a weighted collar on their dog?!

To strengthen its neck and shoulders.

It will really define the shoulders and chest.

For conditioning, a weighted harness IMO is better than a collar but they work too.

Hey stillwater whats up with those camo collars, any word on when u expect to get them?

I was informed by my supplier, that I had to buy 10,000 yards at a time to get it at the same price as the other, that I buy 1000 yards at a time of.

    Looking for another supplier.

That sucks man. I was really looking forward to getting some of those camo collars. When you find a new supplier will you be making the camo collars with the velcro ends? I love my collars from still water and still look like there are brand new and the velcro hasnt came loose yet.
