I WAS LOOKING IN PURCHESING A PROSPECT OR TWO LOCALY SO I COULD SEE THEM HOW THEY ACT,AND SO I COULD TALK TO THE BREEDER UP CLOSE,FACE TO FACE.THE ONLY QUESTION I HAD IS WHAT IS A GOOD AGE RANGE FOR A PROSPECT?

id say 10 to 14 mnths but you still wont know how the dog will act cant see that till there at least 18 mnths old and dont forget prospects are expensive 800 and up mostly better off buying a pup off two proven parents and raising them yourself buy a lot and cull them out when they get old enough to send to school

a prospect is just that. however, if the prospect is experienced, to a degree of sorts........ then everything changes. prospects that are of age or close to age of starting school or in school, should be between 800 and 1500.... depending on the person...... depending on the amount of time invested in both raising and schooling.
i will say i agree with bdk on this one, for reasons not stated. but i would like to add, something to bdk's statement.... raise pups yes, but if you have the means, purchase a bitch that has produced. not ch and gd ch, something young with a few winners in a litter or two...
something with real potential, then get her bred to something similar to her previous litter or litters, and try to recreate what she has produced up to that point. or if you choose try a proven cross that has already been done.
if you are ready to buy a prospect, you should have no problem, sucking it up and purchasing a good bitch for your yard instead. most of the doggers i know and deal with would breed a good bitch that has something on the ground already for pups, so it might not be as bad on the finances as you may have thought.

Well guys my situation is like this,I know a guy selling some real well breed dogs that are a year old,he is selling 2 males and one female and keeping 2 males and one female, all off the same litter.
The mother of the dogs has already produced a champion off a differant stud.but the stud that she was bred to to produce these dogs has produced several champions already.we just don't know how these are going to turn out.The breeder wants $750.for each of them.I was thinking of buying the female and one male.I would say the names of the breed, but someone might find out who is selling them and buy them before I do.I was just wondering if you guys might think the dogs are too old or it is a bad idea to buy the brother and sister?Idont what to breed them together,I just want the male to play with, and the female to breed back to the champion her mother produced out of a differant stud,or breed her back to her father that has produced several champions, which would make them 3/4 his bloodline,or just breed her both ways and see wich side produes better dogs.

No there not to old and if that what your looking for then I would get them. If they turn out, then bredding them back to there parents could turn out to be a good thing. Good luck with them if you get them.
