Went to the pet store and a chunk of rope for playing tug etc, that was maybe 12inches costed $15-30 at petco.

I was wondering if there are any online sources of some nice lengths of rope .

I know i could probably get some somewhere for like $1 a ft ... Those pet stores are making a killing on rope.

I also need to know what kind of rope to stay away from , that could possibly hurt the dog. I am assuming that plastic type rope = bad

i could go w/ some rope that is as big around as a roll of dimes, and up to tug boat rope, ~ A ROLL of silver dollars.

eBay has mostly dog toys :(

  3. Screw buying from petstores...it is so unbelievably expensive. I buy my rope from the hardware store. It's half (or less) the price and it holds up better too. The guy at the hardware store asked what I needed the rope for (to see what kind he would recommend). When I told him it was for my pit bull, he went to the back of the store to get the toughest, highest quality they had, lol. It even held up longer than the tree it was tied too!

    hmm, is nylon rope ok?

i wonder if boat rope will do it.

  5. We use (because you know they will tear it up anyways) rope toys from Wal-Mart, they hold really well, and they are big enough and the best part is...they are only 88 cents!!!

For a "tug" I would recommend cotton rope.

Helps clean teeth while being used.

I don't know if its cotton or nylon, but I get the stuff they usually make horse leads out of. I bought some of it at Home Depot to make a springpole, and had some left over so I knotted it up and gave it to my dog as a tug. She got quite a bit of mileage out of that, and when it finally got demolished I didn't care because it was so cheap. I figure some day I'll get back there and buy some more,

I use the tug boat ropes, they work great ;) Mine is probably 3'' thick rope, so it works fine for the springpole too. I got about 50 foot of it for free years back because they replace the rope every so often. I originally used the rope just to climb myself, up and down...but of course, you get to drinking and 5-6-7 people pile on the rope and you see how far you can get it swinging before you start hitting things. Its solid as a rock, I'd hang a car from it if I needed too..lol.

It is of the nylon type, which means it frays a bit where you cut it, I just tie a big knot in that area and its been fine. Working it on the springpole is perfect, and causes no wear to the rope. However, when the dogs start to put their front paws on the rope and pull back with a grip, they will rip some strands out. I've had the same peice of rope up their for over a year, and I'm sure it will be up there for another couple. I've broken the rafter its hooked to, the hardware, and everything but the rope....

I use nylon horse lead rope as a tug for my dog, what i do is melt the cut end so it doesn't fray all over the place, it seems to work really good. I got a 6ft section from home depot for a few bucks

Wal Marts around here don't have toy ropes for 88 cents. I wish they did! :) I paid almost $4 for a tug rope for my babies.
