The American Rottweiler Club sponcers Jan Cooper to speak at 2006

    Chicago Illinois June 23, 06 - The 2006 Canine Legislation Conferenc will be held in Chicago, the weekend of August 19th and 20th, at The Palmer House Hilton Hotel. The conference will bring together experts from across the country to discuss a variety of topics affecting dog owners and our communities as a whole. The major focus of the conference will be to address the issue of why BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) <http://www.newleash.org/chicago/bsl.asp> is ineffective and what you can do to help create positive and effective alternatives.

    The first day of the conference will include a variety of breakout sessions and will be topped off with a keynote speech by Ledy VanKavage, Midwest Director of Legislative Affairs for the ASPCA. The second day of the conference will bring together all of the conference presenters for an in-depth Q&A session.

    Currently, the following breakout sessions have been scheduled for Saturday:



    - General Dog Training

    - BSL Basics

    - Effective Lobbying & The Judicial System

    - Canine Aggression: A Veterinary Behaviorist's Perspective

    - Dog Bite Statistics: Separating Hype from Reality

    - One Man Can Make A Difference

    - Dog Fighting, Animal Cruelty, Our Communities & BSL

    - Ken Foster presentation



    Jan Cooper is a guest speaker and will be discussing what she has witnessed happening across the country over the past 20 years and what influence the Internet has played, both good and bad. Ending by what she sees happening now and suggestions on solutions.

    Jan was on the original witness list and a Board member of the American Canine Foundation at the time of the original trial Jan is also prepared to field questions on the March 3, 2006, Ohio Appellate Decision on the Tellings vs Toledo.
