Controversial...?

    i need your opinions...

My dog's name is Tookie named after Stan "Tookie" Williams. "Why?" you might ask... well the day we picked him up, the previous owners were actually on their way out to take him to the pound. what happened was, they already had 2 dogs and couldn't afford or didn't have room for another. The man of the house told them (his kids) that they had until 6:00 pm that night to find him (Tookie) an owner or he'd be shipped out. Well, we got lost on the way there and showed up a lil after 6:15 pm... they were loading him up. Joking around with the previous owners for a while before taking Tookie home, we kinda played with the name and then it stuck. Now my sis-in-law is saying that some may be offended by this action? What do you think? Keep the name or change it? and if change it, to what?

here's a few better pics of him taken just yesterday...

tookie is just a name, if you like the name then fine. nobody would know you named the dog after this man unless you told somebody, are you looking for controversey? you still didnt explain why you named the dog tookie?

A guy I know named his pitbull Tookie also, I dont like the name one bit, and like the man he's named after even less. However, most arent up to current events enough to understand the name behind it. I guess a name is a name, call him whatever you want. I dont see why anyone would want to name a dog after that scum bag however.

in his defense... he was a reformed scum bag. from the previous comment, i see what you mean. but either way, i like the name and thanks for your comments.

I say that dog is a mutt.... I also say that if anyone actually knows who Tookie is and what he stood for may be offended. I think you should be more original. Lemme guess? You watched his movie starring Jamie Foxx and liked the name? You might wanna think a lil deeper about naming a dog after a DEAD man.

It also bugs me when people name their dogs after great dogs or dogmen of the past.

I agree, it did appear that way. But how many criminals on death row arent reformed when they are about to go meet their maker?

Well, we have dogs name after Chipper Jones (Chipper), Derek Jeter (Jeter), Sandy Kofax (Kofax) & Whitey Ford (Whitey--although the dog is anything but white :D ). Now...are we wrong too?

One of the dogs my oldest brother has is named Kirby after Kirby Puckett b/c the dog is a little shit & a klepto. Is that bad?

Although Tookie Williams is a lifeform from the bottom of the barrel, I don't see how it's disrespectful to name a dog after him. In fact, in his case, it should be an honor.

As a dog owner, it's your decision. Personally from reading your posts, I never even put 2 + 2 together.

At least it's kind of original not like Lucky or Chance or something someone else would of named him in that situation.

stanley "tookie" williams is a man just any other man with a bad past. so i feel no one has the right to call that man a scumbag. because their are murders that are men of God and work in his house of worship. Meaning that they got a second chance at life and some just don't. all this can be looked up on the net.

So never judge a man until you walked a mile or more in his shoes.

I'm going OT here, but NO ONE who commits murder should get a second chance at life outside of prison. NO ONE. You do the crime, you do the time. Period. Just about everyone will "reform" when faced with certain death or a lifetime behind bars.

Back on topic, I have a much harder time with people who choose to name their dogs after drugs, drug paraphenalia, & drug terminology. Those people do waaaay more harm to ALL of us by once again associating drugs with "pit bulls".

no one ever said the dog wasn't a mutt. i intro'd him as a mix in the intros forum.

like i said in the original post... we were messin around and then it kinda just stuck with him.

you should try reading before you open your big mouth.

I think its CORNY to name the dog Tookie.

I do think it isnt right to name a dog after a person living or dead...but thats me.

  16. I don't think that dog even looks like a pit mix, but whatever. Anyway, it's your dog name it what you like. Cute dog though.

  20. Who cares what you name your dog, really? I knew a horse named Tookie who recently died at the ripe old age of 42. So when I hear of "Tookie" that's who I'm reminded of!
My dog is named Kilo. And no, there's NO reference to drugs with his name either. Our old dog's name was Loki and we switched the letters around. He reminds me a lot of that dog too!
