I'd like to get opinions on Beneful dog food, Its made by purina. I've been feeding my dog this brand since he was 10 weeks old and he's about to be 2 soon. The food has kept him very fit and trim and his weight consistant. Let me know what u think about it.

  2. My experience with Beneful dog food is that it's not a good food at all! My Chesapeake Bay retriever was on that food when I got her. She was fat, had no energy, and shed ALL over the house. Plus she crapped more than a bear, lol! I had her on that food for about six months before I said enough is enough, and now both my dogs are on Natural Balance. Less poop, less shedding, she lost those extra pounds (well, almost) and I don't have to feed as much!

I did a search on Beneful and some sites were comparing it to the McDonalds and Fruit Loops of dog food. Yeah, they seem to LOVE it but does that mean it's really all that good for them? It's mostly corn, wheat, and who knows what else.

Here's the dog I was talking about. This is after being on the Natural Balance food for about six months. She only eats about 1 1/2 cups a day too!

I feed my dogs Diamond dog food and it keeps them trim, shiny and healthy. When i fed them Purina, they stopped eating it after about 3 months.

I havent checked, but that food is going to rate pretty low, probably 2-3 star at best. Not good at all, keep your dog healthy and check into the 5 star foods, or 6 if you can afford it.

wow i didn't realize that beneful was that poorly rated, jesus the puppy food is rated a 1. Hey Silverpearl i've noticed that my dog is pooping a lot i didn't realize it was the food. So i looked at the chart 14rock and i was wondering were could i find some of that innova EVO to try out for my dog.

Just to warn you, it will probably be a little pricey!

boiboi: go for the nature's variety raw instinct, it's easier on a dog's stomach than the evo (some dogs don't take well to potatoes).

thanks for the advice, im gonna have to wait and see what they have in the store. I kinda figured it would be pricey but i think it might be worth it. Is anyone feeding there dogs this type of food, if so how big is the dog and how much do u feed them.

1 cup of a high quality food is like 3 cups of that junk you were feeding.

Yup, you've got it right Boiboi. I feed a 55 lb. dog 2-1/4 cups of Timberwolf, which is pretty similar to Innova.

I know someone who feeds 20+ cups a day (rapidly growing 200 lb. mastiff) of Pedigree and Eukanuba. I cant help but cringe at what that is doing to the dogs inside, and how much she is spending on that junk. A 6-star food, and besides a much healthier dog, probably cut the feed bill back to 6-7 cups tops until the dog is done growing, and then less.

Speaking of BARF diet, I actually found a treat at a grocery store of all places that only contained one ingrediant, chicken. The treat comes in a ziplock bag, the treat is simply dehydrated strips of chicken breast. The bag didn't have any warning of no human consumption so i got curious to see if it really was only chicken breast and what do u know thats all u taste. I can't remember who makes it but ill post it later when i found out.
