the best dog i have ever owned had no papers and yet was the badest pit bull i ever owned,,, the only regret i've ever had was i wouldn't breed him,,, i've kicked my a@@ many times since and said if i ever got another that good,,, papers or not,,, i'll have a extra one incase something ever happened to him or her,,,
I knew where the dog come from and what it was made of but some ppl don't want records for certain reasons,,, but this was back in early 1980

That is a way to look at it. Who's to say SoandSo Kennel's dogs are this much better than what you believe you have wrapped already in your dogs. There's only a few ways to figure that out. The pedigree on SoandSo Kennel's still wouldn't be sufficient to say that these dogs are better than your yard because the past 3-4 generations aren't highly known.

Then again, what does happen to make a strong point is production record. Nowadays, if I'm getting a new addition, I'm looking at production record, not exactly the dog's themselves or even the ones in the past. So breeding an ace unpapered dog could be productive, or it could be pointless. That's what it's breaking down to. Producer and user. The breeder and the dogger.

  8. this is a very good question i like it, i did not read all the responses but here is my thoughts. i would breed one litter if the dog/bitch produced like its self do it agian and keep you own record of production. if not cull it or keep it for your pleasure.

to me the pitbull/gamedog is mans attempt at perfection going way way back before registers and kennels clubs performance was the goal. if ones dog was game and strong but slow they would add a terrier or greyhound/whippet. if it was the other way than add strenght. all kept their own records who cares what others think if it works it works if it doesn't than try something differnet.

to me papers help people make an educated guess on buying a dog for their needs. it doesn't gaurantee that the dog will be what you want but tips the odds in your favor a little.

anyways if most would just stick to best to the best it wouldn't really matter as much.

Its all about the dog a responsible owner must not let the blood die no matter if the dog is registered or not, have papers or non for as long as the dog conforms to the standards. Registration merely determines the dogs origin or history so as to help future breeders/owners in knowing their dog.

To me this post seems like some punk trying to justify breeding a dog he found on the street.

my wife posed this as a thought provoking question after reading historical articles about it being done back in the day. She's not a punk and we don't have any street dogs we want to breed. Maybe instead of holding back your vomit you should have actually read the posts and you'd have known that. Your attitude makes me want to vomit. So much for ever trying to have stimulating conversation on here. Hey, let's have another thread to bash blues instead, or how about we chase some more newbies away by telling them they're stupid and shouldn't have these dogs, or perhaps we'll label some people as BYB's and get all up their business.......that's what this site is about ain't it?????

I like this thread. It's interesting to see how some of the regular members, people who have been in to this breed for many many years, all have different opinions on this subject.

Pitbull219, I agree. We should be able to discuss a wide variety of topics without being judged or bashed. Sometimes people asks questions for people they know....sometimes they asks questions that they've just wondered themselves after doing reading and researching. This site has a lot of helpful information and a lot of the folks that post are just good people. But, sometimes some people can be judgemental and harsh. Sometimes some people act like they are better than others, like they are looking down upon another member, nose turned up in the air and all. I just try to kinda look over those posts. After all, this is the internet....so many people are hypocrites or they just lie anyway.

As for my two cents on the subject at hand.....well, I believe papers do not make a dog. Like others have stated, some curs sure do have fancy papers. So, if you have a dog that has proven itself to you and you want to breed for your own (or family/friends) yard, then go for it. Like ghost, I am sure there have been some people who had an exceptional animal and did not breed and regret that decision after the animal passed.
    Btw, RIP Ch Pug.

Having an unregistered dog & a dog of unknown back ground are NOT THE SAME THING!! And ANY one who knows ANY thing about breeding should KNOW this. Hell, I don't know SHIT about breeding & I know this. I have a dog that is unregistered, that does NOT mean I don't know how it is bred. AND just because I do know how he is bred does NOT mean he should himself should be bred.

What has upset Mia, myself & others is the fact that it is being said on this thread that it is just fine to breed a dog of unknown back ground, not an unregisetered dog, unknown back ground .....a mutt. One guy on this thread was all but slapped on the back for talking about breeding HIS dogs because HE thinks they are worthy. No one here knows him but yet they have given a thumbs up to his breeding plans. What makes his dogs any different from a Bluff? The fact that it may LOOK more like a pit bull? No one even KNOWS that.

If you have no plans to participate in a breeding such as this, why are you so upset about the fact that people think it is the wrong thing to do?

I am taking a break from the board for a while, in fact I have been but had to post this. The things going on around here chap my ass. One person has two litters on the ground & can't even keep his dogs contained and the questions he asks PROVE he has no clue what he is doing but yet he is congratulated for his breedings. Another is placed upon a pedestal and yet is nothing more than a puppy peddler. This breed is going STRAIGHT to hell. And yes, BYB IS my business, this is MY breed. A breed I have owned my entire life & a breed that I have to FIGHT to own so that idiots can come along & screw it up for me.

the reason I get upset is it has already been explained what prompted this thread, yet people are lodging personal attacks at my wife. If someone has a problem with what another poster said, address them directly, don't call my wife a punk. When people attack my family they bring out a side of me you don't want to see. I agree there have been alot of things being said here lately that are outrageous. Just my opinion, if you have issues with people you think are BYB's and peddlers, why not take it up with them in pm's so the public doesn't see the divisions within our community. Do we need to make our weaknesses known to our enemies?

    .
Believe me, they already know them. The public is WELL aware of BYB & the problems they cause & hiding it is not going to help anyone. Maybe if we let the public know that the TRUE pit bull community does NOT agree with them we jsut might have a bit of leverage & not be lumped into the same catagory as all the rest of the irresponsible owners. Keeping silent is the same as agreeing with them.

I didn't see anyone personally attack your wife. She did nothing to warrant it other than start a thread. Both of you have already made your stance clear in this thread. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Exactly. No one KNOWS what a person has if they haven't met them and been to their yard. So, why give the man a thumbs down?

Why give him a thumbs up? I'd rather discourage someone from breeding than encourage him. Is there a shortage of dogs in your area? Because there sure ain't in mine. Or his since he is in my area. AND if his dogs get out & bother people guess who takes the hit? HIM? Hell no, the BREED does, whether or NOT they even are pit bulls. Do you think they will be called pit bull MIXES ( what anything of an unknown breeding REALLY IS)? Of course not!

So according to some in this thread, ya'll embrace the breeding of mutts, bluffs & curs?

Sorry Pitbull 219 and Mrs. Pitbull 219 my last post was directed toward the kid and people that support breeding a dog of unknown origin, not talking about a dog that is unreg, but one that is unknown.
Were I live if you are breeding good dogs of unknown origin that means you are a dog thief or buy from dog thieves.
Seems like now a days people are to damn cheap and lazy to get their dogs registered. Everyone I know that are into these dogs keeps them registered, even old timers that have been into the dogs their entire lives.
I've never heard of so many people not registering their dogs in my life, till I started looking at these internet boards.
My uncle told me when I was younger if a person is to lazy and cheap to do something as simple as register a dog, what else are they to lazy and cheap to do.
