I like many of you use safegaurd and pyrantel to worm my dogs. Took my lil pup of 17 wks(23lbs) to get the rabbies vac and she said it looked like he may have worms. I told her I wormed with pyrantel and safe gaurd, she said great but neither kills tapes. She was cool and said just worm him with the wormer she gave me which was cheaper than the fecal exam. I did a search on line and ref my Cal Jack book and doncit kills tapes and is only available by script now. D worm kills tapes and was put on FDA recall.

Safe-Guard (fenbendazole paste) 10% is indicated for the control of large strongyles (Strongylus edentatus, S. equinus, S. vulgaris), small strongyles, pinworms (Oxyrus equi), ascarids (Parascaris equorum), and arteritis caused by 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris in horses. horse version is different I guess.....but still cheaper to get the horse version and the fish tapes caps. It costs 14 bucks for one worming for the canine dose by me.

fenbendazole doesnt kill tapes that come from fleas..which is the most likly way a dog on a chain or kennels will get tapes.Praziquantel kills all tapes even the one from fleas..Praziquantel is the main ingrientent is fish tape pills.

and you never REALLY know if your worming is working unless you get a fecal slide-otherwise its merely guesswork

TRUE KIND OF LIKE A DR GIVING BROAD SPECTRUM ANTIBIOTICS KILL EVERYTHING TO BE SURE LOL. But its a fact canine safegaurd states kills tapes on the label...horse version doesnt per label. Most use the horse version if you do it would behoove u to throw in the fish tapes. sorry for the caps busy at work.

RallyRacer good point on the slides and so true on the guess work.A descent mircoscope is well worth the 250 bucks and the kit for fecals. But the avg joe will do pretty well if they have a good worming plan.Rotate wormers is allso a good idea. And dont rely on Ivermecten to kills all your worms people.

canine safegaurd or safe gaurd (Fenbendazole)only kills Tania(sp) tapes these are not the same tapes that fleas carry. There ingested by the dog threw a dead anaimal that has then..NOT FLEAS
