Do you use the cold pressed coconut oil? I used to use that for myself I assume it would be better for the dog...

coconut oil. For dandruff I spray a mixture of 1/2 water 1/2 apple cider vinegar and that has helped a lot.

Mirra Coat has all the essential vitamins and oils in it to ensure a healthy coat and skin. You can't give too much of it as it is an oil and can cause the runs but it works excellent.
Nutritional supplement for skin & coat. Recommended as a premium organic nutritional supplement, which aids in correcting severe nutritional deficiencies and for maintenance of a beautiful skin and coat condition. Improvements are seen within 2 weeks of use.
    Mirra-Coat O3 contains the following:
Balanced Omega 6 & Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) – promotes cell membrane and nerve cell formation – improves skin barrier function.
    Both linoleic and linolenic acid.
Optimal Organic oils (pesticide and solvent free).
High levels of natural antioxidants and vitamins:
Vitamin E complex (tocopherol and tocotrienol) which prevents cellular oxidation, balances vitamin A concentration and activates EFA metabolism.
Vitamin A prevents plugged hair follicles.
Vitamin B6 prevents dermatitis and hair loss and activates EFA and protein metabolism.
No Vitamin D – excess vitamin D causes bone dysfunction – excess vitamin D causes soft tissue calcification.
Zinc – prevents scaly dermatitis and hair lossactivates EFA and protein enzyme systems.
Biotin – prevents scaly dermatitis and hair loss – improves hair color and luster – activates EFA and protein metabolism.
High level of octocosanol, a potent energy source.
Gamma-oryzanol for improved growth and better blood circulation.
Convenience – concentrated liquid form – high protein powder form.

It may sound silly but I use skin-so-soft from Avon on my dogs and it does wonders for your dogs coat and skin as well as keeps flying pests off of them. It's very cheap and a little goes a long way. Your dogs dandruff will go away immediately and their coat will shine bright like a diamond :)

Been using that stuff on dogs since the late 80's and I've never had a dog who's coat didn't sparkle after just the first application of it, long haired breeds to short haired ones, don't matter. Plus if your dogs an outside dog you get the added protection from mosquitos, flies and bees. Don't know if it works for fleas and ticks too since I never have issues with either but it may help keep them at bay as well....

@KW so givin your hound to much oil will cause the runs? so would you suggest every other day or every couple days to lay off?

you can give daily, just too much at one time can cause diarrhea. My girl had soft stool for the first couple days of me giving her the salmon oil. Instead of giving it all to her in the morning, I split up the portions into her 2 daily meals. 2 pumps in the AM, 2 pumps in the PM.
