mine does the same thing i have tried stopping it nothing worked. I tried so my gf could walk him, then i realized its a bulldog and i loved the way he pulled.

when mine would do that i would tell him no and pull him to my side and say " heel " and when he would stay by my side reward him n tell him good boy. maybe do a little obedience refreshing - sit, stay, come, lay down all that. also when i was teaching mine to heel i would have him walk a few feet and then i would tell him and sit and stay for a second no matter how much he wanted to run so he understood i was in charge of his movements on the leash, and then reward him and praise him when he listens. you could also go to trainer if you need.

Its not hard to train a dog to walk next to you. Just give a correction if they pull until they figure it out. Google the heel command. its better exercise for the dog to pull so I don't mind it

Get a prong collar when she walks him put it on him every time he attempts to pull ahead pop the lead which will release a pinch to the dogs neck and he will slow down do not let the dog leave your side or pull ahead constant correction by a slight pop at the lead will help control the pulling. The prong collar needs to be fitted high up on the neck and it must not be loose it needs to be fairly snug that is the proper way to fit a prong collar.

I like a dog that pulls when I walk one its for thier benefit not mine, so I let them pull as hard as they want, shit i will even jog when they pull hard like that.I will go back down to a walk though.I like them to walk and pull at first though..if they still pulling hard and we running out of time that's when I will jog a lil bit.I always try to make it about them. Some won't pull that hard and.

I let my girl pull, but man she can be almost embarrassing sometimes. People look at her an me like "what the fuck is wrong with your dog". :-)

I'm a 110 pound female and I walk a puller. He has about put me on my butt a few times but it can be done.

Start putting in lots of work, Do you make him sit at every corner before he is allowed to cross the street? Start small getting him to focus on you when on walks, if he gets to the end off his lead make a 180 turn and walk the oposite way giving a firm tug to come with you so he has a reason to want to focus on you. Once he starts letting up on pulling use the leash as a means to getting his attention when he gets to far ahead and pop him on his back with it. Dont swing the leash just pull up and snap it onto his back while it is extended. Stop and wait till he is in the heal position and focusing on you before continuing.

Only thing that sucks is you need to be very consistant with this. I used the koehler method of dog training with my last dog and by the age of 3 she didnt need to be leashed. No matter the situation she was always in control and focused on me, but i also put in a LOT of time to achieve this.

Dont forget to reward him when he is doing good, reach down and give him a pat on the side and let him know he is a good boy or use treats if he is into them.

Yeah, the Koehler method really works for leash training. Turning around, running into/trampling the dog....Do it enough and the dog will be constantly looking at you to see where you're going and what you're going to do next. At this point I'm having so much fun watching my dog act like an idiot that I don't want her to stop.

I've tried a few things myself because I hated not being comfortable on the walks and it just taken the fun out of it for me. What worked for me is a very short leash that gives just the right slack (about 24" for me but I'm a short guy). I have a carabiner attached to both end of the leash, one of which will hook the collar and the second to clip on my belt. They just sort of picked up on the whole concept not saying it will work with every dog but I love having my hands free not worry about thugging and correcting them on the leash and it sorts of put them on ease too. It's more of a mentality thing and I have a short fuse when it comes to this sort of shit.
