i see 2 cons the price and what if the dog gets snowed in or if it rains hard, we all take off for a few hrs at times and the weather can change fast.

i have to agree with mntman. even tho snow isnt that big of a deal around my area. how would it keep rain out?

no idea, never used one, principal i feel is a good one, maybe a few tweaks like a flap or slightly raised door

Cool idea, agree with the rain part... filling up and having a very uncomfortable dog ! Also , a lame dog going down there and you having to hoist the dog out. Thanks for posting though.

300 per dog house is really expensive but it is a good concept.

There's no way I'd actually pay that for it but I have considered trying to make some form of underground shelter.I like the concept anyway.I've been in cellars, basements and caves and I've always noticed how when I'm underground it's always about the same temprature regardless of the time of year.Warm enough in winter and cooler in summer.I have a little squirrel dog that digs a little hole under an old board and likes to sleep there better than his doghouse. When I've got him tied up next to his hole he almost always chooses it over his doghouse. It's an interesting idea if someone can work with it and gets it so rain won't get in,plus it would need to not be to hard to clean.

build a earthship for ur dog out of tires and cement ...for real. I was thinking up a blue print of sorts for this. cut tires in half drill holes and connect with long screws. cool in the summer warm in the winter. tires are free and u can build it above ground.

wouldnt it be a lot easier to cover a dog house with dirt i think you would get the same effect as far as temp goes

MtnMan, Could you go into some detail on this Earthship you are talking about... I am curious...

the earthship would be way warmer there is plans for them on line. I know of a guy who had one in Telluride Co AND HE WENT TO THE ISLANDS for 2 wks left the heat off in Jan and came back and his house was 68 when he came home. you back tires with dirt/sand stack em up licke you would bricks..some people cut them in half for smaller applications which I think would do well for a dog house but this would work for people with cold winters only imo. You would have a dog house for life. Imagine if you covered it with crete?

its pretty cool but there are a few major flaws.like mntman mentioned rain and snow.u could wake up or come home to dead dog in el paso,tx.
