If I breed a litter, it is for me and me only. I really don't care what someone else likes or dislikes about my dogs, I am looking for what I am looking for, and if certain dogs in that litter don't show me what I want to see, then those dogs would be put down. We have all heard the old saying "One mans junk is another mans treasure" I take that to mean that there are some who would breed the fuck out of most of the dogs I would put down, so therefore it is my job and my job alone to make sure those unwanted dogs dont get off my yard.

I get Cutt's point, yours too Oldtymer.
And I know damned straight that open forum isn't the best place to talk about sensitive issues. Plus, I'm not trying to hijack a good thread.
However, the truth is that sometimes, doing the "right thing" is more easily suggested than done.

I take care of my own. But, first time I found myself in a situation, I didn't have anyone to go to for proper advice on the subject. And sometimes, especially for a lot of the urban cats I know, placing a dog with the best folks you can find is the best of bad possible options.

Sometimes people keep their business as tight as can be, only to get busted on the disposal end of the deal,...you know, that quintuple bagged carcass rips out in the garbage truck and you have ASPCA crawling the route asking questions and looking for anybody with a leash on their property (happens). Or, you get those guys that go the dumpster route in order to avoid that trail, only to have somebody find it and then the TV news talks about "evidence of illegal dogfighting discovered in a dumpster..." and politicians preaching about it. Anyway, like I said, I don't want to start uncomfortable or unsafe discussions on public boards with those who don't understand the situation looking on. But good, well-meaning cats often get caught up and make us all look bad while trying to do the right things without having any real direction on how to carry the "right thing" out in the right way. Anyway, I've done enough dumbshit for one day. PM if need be.

I'm an urban dogman, I'd need a jackhammer or midnight trip to the local sports field.

old state of mine. in the older days it was better to have your name or kennel have a good rep. in the dogs. like they say its better to say montana knl as game true dogs instead of saying he breeds so-so dogs. learn it from first hand.

I new a WELL MEANING URBAN CAT who lived in Russia. He only culled for physical defects like cleft palate, hemivertibrae, etc.. He used a powerful pellet gun and then gave a viking funeral in his fenced back yard. It's not practical for someone who has pups all the time cause it eats up fire wood, but worked well every now and again, I was told.

with a bon fire, all that hair has to leave a pleasent aroma throughout the neighbor hoood LOL.....here in good ol' Pinellas county you are allowed to bury animals within your back yard as long as your conform to the stds listed....3' deep....dumpsters get you a fine and a charge. We had to decide when I put one down wether to haul her back and dig a ditch or pay more money to get her cremated.....

I don't think the Russian's method would work well for anything over 4 weeks.

I put an adult down at the vet a couple yrs ago in the middle of winter. I had to use a backhoe to break the ground. Would'nt have cost me a dime to leave him, but I wanted him to have a nice final resting place.

Well, precisely, actually. I totally agree. Not one single word of argument from me.

Now, however, dumbshit happens every single day.
A lot of folks don't really think through the entire process before they jump head-first into breeding,...or even giving advice.

People don't take things seriously. People just don't think. To a whole lot of naive folks this whole dog thing is a great big macho game where everything is fun and easy-that is until it comes to picking up shit and putting down dogs.

As for the tone and content of the conversation,...I know, I agree.
But, all I'm going to say about that is that there are a whole lot of people doing things they shouldn't whether they have a clue or connection or not. A lot of people keep doing the same crap over and over again for many of the same stupid reasons-they find themselves in situations they haven't thought through and can't control and resort what looks like the easy way out.

If the "too much" that has been said makes a few folks think a little harder about breeding that litter, taking that iffy dog they really don't need, doing short-cut/inhumane bullshit, dumping a dog, not standing up to the responsibilitiy they have taken on,...then it's worth it to me.

I don't talk about anything I haven't personally done or experienced; I call no names, except my own; and they already know where I live.

Dogs are prolific, if a dog man creates his own stock of dogs, it’s his choice, & piece of mind for the choice.
I guess in the reality it must make a person hard to life to cull & deal with it, could keep you out of jury duty when you come down to it.
