  1. Poisoned

    Poisoned Big Dog

    This is my foster dog.

    2+ years old
    Spayed
    Loves kids
    People friendly
Animal Aggressive (NO other dogs/cats in the home)
    Must go to experienced owner
Needs obedience work (recall, she will ignore you off leash right now)
Very smart and picks up things quick
Loves to be close to you

She came from a shitty situation and because of that she needs some time to work on her problems, her obedience is one of them - she's learned than coming when called is NOT a good thing...

Keep in mind every day she is with me I am working to fix these problems.

The NO other dogs/cats in the home is only for pet owners who think they can make her get along with their other dogs, if you rotate, have chainspots/kennels etc. I'm fine with it. I have her and my own two dogs right now and it's not a problem.

Transportation (within reasonable distance) can be set up, but not unless you are 100% sure you want her.

So within her week here she has picked up:
    Her name
    Come
    Down
    Stay
    Sit
    Potty Training
    Crate training
Leave it (iffy on this, if she thinks she can get away with it)

    She's a smart girl.

Okay, well... I've had several people contact me (all idiots), two of whom asked what kind of blue pit she was and if she could still be bred even if she was spayed. And one chick even got an attitude because I told her to stop sending me the same damn email over and over and not answering my questions (the email was "what breed of dog and how much").

    It's crazy I tell you..

    Thanks..

I had what sounded like a great home lined up, they filled out an application and it sounded great, they were supposed to meet and possibly bring Roxy home yesterday, but I haven't heard from them since they sent the app - I have no idea what happened.

I just wish to God I could find her a home with someone on the boards. Someone I know would keep her safe and treat her right.. Poor girl has been through enough.

    Thank you.

I got contacted by a crazy, and a furmommy by the sound of it... Because they kept taking my post down (people were marking it as inappropriate/against the rules (no selling).

    So I replied with:

Ma'am, I am positive you have the wrong person. Because I'm not asking a fee, I'm giving up countless hours to train and socialize this dog, I'm giving all of her items (including a nice crate, toys, collars, and a lead) to the new adopter, I've worked for EIGHT MONTHS to get her out of a terrible situation, I've spent more than a few hundred on her and I'm not asking a dime, I have to rotate her with my two dogs which takes additional time, AND I have to try to find someone who is actually competent to take on an adult APBT.

    So what is your problem?

Also, if you are flagging people who are not OBVIOUSLY backyard breeders, maybe you should rethink. Because so far I've spent $210 on items for the dog and I was flat out broke before I decided to open my home and heart to her, but I managed to scrape up enough to make sure she had what she needed, and I'm not asking to be repayed in any way but that she go to a good home.

And even if I DID ask, say, $250 as a fee to recoup my losses (so maybe I could pay a bill or feed myself and my dogs) and many, many many hours spent on her, there is nothing wrong with it. If you can't pay the rehoming fee, don't pay it. But even some legitimate rescues ask over $350 for their dogs/puppies. If people are willing to pay, why should it matter? The dog will find a home regardless and if you think the previous owners are selfish for asking money, why flag? The dog will be out of their selfish hands faster if you leave the ad up.

If it's an obvious breeder, flag - but if you think their fee is too much, leave that up to the adopters to decide. To me, $250 is a large amount of money, to my next-door-neighbors it's what they pay to go out to eat, paying that much for a dog wouldn't mean anything to them.

    Hope she replies..

Then removed me from her list of 'allowed to contact' emails, so I can't reply with anything more intelligent than her again.

Man, that is crazy. I love people so blinded by "the good they do" that they refuse to take any outside advise or critisism, all they just show is that they know they are in the wrong and refuse to admit it. I wish I could help you out as well. But not in the right situation. Keep up hope the right person will come along, she really sounds like a good girl and we know she is a looker. :) good luck.

    Poisoned Big Dog

I wish you could help me out too  She IS a good dog, or I wouldn't be giving so much to try to save her.

It's so sad, that the only reason she and I are in this situation is because her owner didn't go to the library or on their computer and look up info on the breed.. That is the only reason she's suffered so much. Ignorance.

Thank you - finding someone competent is not proving easy..

I need to get video of the noises this dog makes at other dogs. She doesn't bark, she sounds like she's being put into a meat grinder or something - one of my neighbors actually came outside to see why she was making such a racket. But she doesn't bark at my dogs - just ones she's passing.. She shuts up once she realizes they aren't going anywhere..

Are the noises high pitched, screaming?...Daisy does that too. Samething, only out onwalks towards strange dogs. If the dog stand a distance n bark, she ignores, but if the dog move, come toward fence or walking on leash, she sounds off. Funny quirks each dog has:)

  15. Poisoned

    Poisoned Big Dog

Oh yeah, she works the screams in there, but she gurgles and moans and acts like an idiot

She did that to my two at first, but after a few minutes she realized that they weren't going anywhere and piped down.. Now, MY dog hasn't realized that apparently and still starts roaring at her for a few minutes any time she's in sight

Roxy is still looking for a place to go, even a temporary home where she can take up a chainspot for a while, because she has to find somewhere by May. She is a really great dog - since I've been getting her out she is not half as shy with new people and she just loves kids, I'm pretty sure she finds them a lot less scary.

  17. Poisoned

    Poisoned Big Dog

She is doing an in-home trial with a sweet family, so far she's doing good and loves their little girl. Just keep her in your thoughts, she was running out of time with me and the poor dog deserves a nice home after all she has been through.
