What if the stranger you save turns out to be a child molester,or a serial killer?

What if the dog turns out to be a man killer, and kills your child? This thread can go back, and forth with what if's for as long as this forum is around so let me put a what if in there.....What if that dog, and human were both good honorable individuals?

Probably the dog, cause the human should be smart enough to stay in the shallow's if his ass can't swim good.

But until im actually put in that situation i can't say what id do for sure.

I almost drowned at a crowded beach and not one damn person came to help me, so I'd save my dog without a doubt. My dogs are my family and I'd take care of family before a stranger any day.

I think some what of an instinct would kick in for a lot of people...
in the commotion of a human gargling water trying to ask for help
the dog probably wouldnt cross your mind til u got the person to safety.

    Question:

Would you have any ill feelings towards the person who saved their dog instead of your child or sibiling?

I gotta be honest... I feel for anybody that ever let my child drown because they would rather save their mutt... I'd get midevil.

Well your going to have to live with it the rest of your life, knowing you let a humane drown, can you live with that? Fuck yeah..I'm jumping in to SAVE my dog, dog is family, family comes first, but until I'm in that situation, there is no telling what I would do, maybe I would jump in and save whatever is close's to me, if possible..I don't see why I can't save both???....grab my dog with one arm, and swim to help the stranger?....Great thread by the way, got my brain working the thread mill LOL.

Some things in this world are classified as COWARDICE and to me personally anyone who puts their dog first without thinking twice, is just that, a coward. If you have the brains and heart to put a child, mother, sibling, grandmother, wife or husband which could very well be that "stranger" in mortality to spear your dog the life instead...you are a pathetic. If you are looking for a favor in return and are putting that as an excuse as to why you wouldn't even consider this "stranger" because who is to know if they will return the favor and save you, your a person who revolves the world around yourself and thinks only your life is worthy above all which = GROW UP AND BE A MAN/WOMAN SOMEDAY. Sorry but when you were born the earth didn't stop to cater only to your needs and to act like one should display the same attitude towards others is a sad lonely selfish person in reality. Know one said you have to save a person's life on a regular basis we know your not superman or to always consider someone else above your own feelings but to never come out of your cave of only ME in these types of situation is just horrible. This is a serious opinion stated in a serious manner don't get offended if it doesn't apply to you which if you do it more then likely means I am catching on to something you probably don't want to but do agree with me.

I posted this thread because I was quite interested in the response , Obiviously on most dog related forums and other breeds I would not be at all suprised if the vast majority would pick there dogs but I didn't know what the response would be here as many memebers take the stance of being realistic about there animals (i.e at the end of the day they are just dogs). Also members repeating over and over that humans should come above the dogs.

At first I immediatly thought of my dog but thats only because I have prior connection to the animal and no relation to the stranger but to be honest I wouldnt let a man/woman/child drown to selfishly save my own animal.

Great point. Everyone that has said they would pick there dogs over another living human would you understand if someone made a choice to save there dog instead of your child/brother/sister or any other family relative?

I specifically stated that it's just MY serious opinion, and to simply not get offended if it doesn't apply to you ;)

but your still implying the fact that you need something in return if you were to save the stranger which I elaborated on in my previous post up there mam. You do things from your heart not expecting or putting up some sort of contract or expectation in return.

I would save the person first. After more than fifteen years of bodyboarding in the sorts of places we like to call "waves of consequence" i would like to think i am able to save both swiftly, i have had to be saved after a house size wave dragged me accross the reef and i split my head without the help i may well have been dead. I have also had to come to the aid of many people over the years and when you are in the situation all you do is react to the situation and go straight to their aid. One full season living in surfers paradise i had to help over ten people as much as you think twice with the "harder" ones you react the same way next time you see one.

Funny little hint when it comes to saving a non proficient swimmer who is in full panic mode, I was told by an experienced waterman, to simply punch them in the head if they wont calm down! Apparently a hard punch will either take their mind off the situation long enough to get some attention or they will go limp and you can swim them in without them strangling you or pull you under.
I think he just wanted a reason to punch someone.

That and ive never ever seen or heard of a dog drowning on its own,
