Hell, I can see someone running into legal trouble if you rescue the person and let's say break a rib doing CPR. The person finds a good lawyer who knows his way around the Good Samaritin law and you're fucked.

I'd save my dog first. Like RR said, quite often people are drowned themselves trying to rescue someone out of water, and if I'm gonna risk my life it will be for the easier save and one closer to my heart. Situation night change if it is a child drowning.

I worked in a level 1 trauma center for 7yrs, I can honestly say that I've attempted to save more lives than most people. I can truly say that human beings are not as grateful and deserving as some may think. I've seen tons of people get saved out of life threatening situations just to put themselves right back into them. From people getting liver transplants and still being alcoholics with the new liver, to people being pulled out of a burning car just to have them crash into another tree on purpose because the first suicide attempt didn't go as planned. No offense, but I've seen enough death to really not be bothered by it anymore, unless it's a child. For all we know, the drowning stranger could have jumped off the bridge to kill himself and you just stopped him so he can do again another day, while your assed out of a solid animal. JMO

Actually if your trained in CPR and you break a rib attempting to save someone's life, you cant get sued or anythting like that, but let's say a lifeguard surpasses a human in order to save the dog and that person drowned then that lifegaurd can then be held legally liable for that death.

We are talking about a stranger here, it's a cold world and people are capable of anything, if I don't know you buddy...tough luck. And according to the way society views our animals, they are damn near people anyway.

"All dogs go to heaven because unlike people they are naturally loving, and loyal unlike humans"- Charlie (from all dogs go theaven) lol.

just bc ur trained in cpr doesnt mean you have to save someone. Only once you start the process are you required to continue until person is revived, dead, or someone of higher training takes over. Im trained and if i dont know you or ur not a friend of a friend ur SOL with me. Ill call the police but i know someone who got sued saving someone. Fucking irritating...

Just to throw this into the mix seems many on here are willing to inflict grief and heartache to a whole family of the stranger to save there dog?

Id probably be so torn over who to save that they would both drown lmao.

I can sympathize with all of this..... Having seen first hand for years peoples ungratfullness for life in a trama centers operating room.

And Rally said it best, First the dog and if I can find something to help rescue the person I will help, if not 911 and I hope they get there for you quick enough because nothings worse than tring to save someone and now having to fight for your own life. When people panic they don't listen or do as expected and you could easily find yourself the one in need of help while your dog is nice and dry up on shore. I'd save the dog and help the person in anyway I could other than going in after them. (unless it was a child, then I have take the loss of a good dog).

I hope the reward covers the price of your drowning dog, the collar he has on, the price of upkeep during his life with you, the price of your ruined sneakers, and mental trauma from choosing a stranger over your loyal animal. Lol JMHO

I choose the dog because my dog would lay his life down for me. The stranger probably hates bulldogs and is the type of person to call the cops cause I have my dogs outside on chains.

I'll tell ya what, if it was my dog Onyx that was drowning, you better be my kids or wife or your sunk. I will save him over 98% percent of the people I know, anyone who knows me can verify my love of my favorite dog. Strangers die everyday and I could care less, so what is the difference if a stranger dies in front of me... I won't care any more then i care about someone who died just now in another country. If I don't know you then your really not important to me on a emotional/personal level.

I would choose my dog over a stranger. I was a life guard and trust me when someone is panicking they will take you under and then what? My loved ones would be without me all because this person took me down with them, and mostly likely they would drown as well. I would rather save my LOYAL companion and LIVE. You have a better chance of survival saving the dog...I like my life!

i agree with rally. like month and a half ago in korea , little girl was drowning in the lake water and she was only 5. and her father saw her drowning and he decided to help her. first of all he was exprienced 25 yrs of fisherman. so he figures its nothing. but think again. he never knew lake water is so much colder than sea water. soon as he jumped in he got heartattack but he still pushed out hes girl while he was having heart attack and he died but girl was saved.

Which ever one of us was the easiest to save. Don't want no one dying over me, and in any life threatening situation, your supposed to save the easiest victim. So I'd want the responder to save the easiest victim. If it was my dog that was easiest then so be it, no sense in both of us dying at the sametime. JMO

so you would rather your dog being saved from drowning than you?.

To be honest I would imagine saving a person would be more important than selfishly saving my own dog. We are effectively putting the life of another species above the life of one of our own but thats only due to the emotional aspect of the dog being an attached figure in your life that we ponder about saving the dog. If it was a random dog and a random human it would strike me as very strange if someone where to pick the dog over the human. Again if the human was a family member or someone attached in our lives then we would pick the human. So really the choice boils down to subconscious attachment.

Obviously this situation was ment to be in the sense that both you could easily save either but you didnt have the time to save both and you had to pick.
