Nice read Lee D a lot of people don't like the idea of mixing the pit-bull breed outside of its breed for a variety of different reasons and even though my dog Spud is a mutt (PittbullXBullterrier) I remain on the fence and its mostly for the reasons based on blaming the breed for what mixed dogs do, but i like the idea of it because I do believe you could get superior large working dogs from some of the breeding. Anyone else have an opinion?

Lee those books you have are priceless, as you may know. This was a very interesting thread. And as the book has said these crosses are very big in the NY area. I have seen so of these dogs and have been wowed by their size. Yes I am a resident of NY and have seen them personally.

There are some top notch Bandogs out there of all kinds of makeups, there's a pic of Bantu being rolled with another Bandog later on in that book too.

I have a copy for sale, pm if interested!!

I had that book before along time ago , interesting book about the history of other so called fighting breeds of dogs. A bandog is basically a friggen MUTT by crossing a pitbull with a larger mastiff type breed of dog.

There is a kennel down south that developed their own line and are breeding true working Bandogs. These dogs are produceing true to type also,I would not call them pure bred, but are reproduceing their body and mind in every litter.Good looking dogs i mite add.

bred to work. thats the key, its not about "purebred" snobbish shit
its about mastiff size, HA, and a proven APBTs intensity

Lee, i have a mix breed dog myself she is game bred apbt x neo mastiff , i do not work her she is more of a house pet, my question to you is, what can the bandog excell better than any other dog. Thank you.

Not to be argumentive, but there are dogs like the malinois and gsd, that most would agree that is a better guard dog.

Im not sure if I totally understand what you meant by "bred to work" or "its not about purebred snobbish shit". A Bandog does NOT breed true, so how can you breed it too work? lol Basically you just crossing a pitbull with anykind of large breed of dog. If I cross a Pitbull to a German shepard is it bred to work? If I cross a Pitbull to a rottweiler is it bred to work? If I cross a Pitbull to a Great Dane is it bred to work? lol

I think you would have to cross APBT and Mastiff everytime u bred to keep it from getting wattered down .Swinford dies bfore he got it right I believe he would have had to add one more breed to the mix ..and I have no clue what it would have been ..its jmo.

Thats what makes a Purebred performance/working dog so special is that they are specialized in a particular task/trait.

by "bred to work" im saying you do the breeding in hopes of creating a dog capable of doing a desired job. in this case, guard and protection. not all in a litter will work out of course, you'd be wanting a HA big dog with APBT intensity. seems several breeds of mastiff are being used with varying levels of success due to the fact that so many breeds are ruined by the show ring.
