Supplements vs. No Supplements in conditioning

We're going to be doing ADBA next year if all goes as planned, and I've been reading the threads in this forum quite a bit. I was wondering if those who condition for shows could indulge me a bit in this. I'd like to see pictures of your conditioned dogs, and at the same time please specify if you supplemented during your keep or not (and preferably with what if the answer is affirmative). I am admittedly leaning towards not supplementing beyond a good multivitamin, but before I make that decision, I'd like to see if there's a tangible advantage to supplementation.

    Thanks in advance. :)

This topic will always be debated. However, IMO i am all for a good supplement while conditioning. Supplementation in all realms of athletic competition is astounding to years past. Just compare todays athletes with those from a decade ago.

I know a lot of people stress that a good feed is all it takes. But why not give a dog all that you possibly can...the kind of keep we personally do is demanding. Not only do i feed good kibble, but also begin to add raw to the diet. The supplement i use is called Vertex...Baha i am sure you heard of it. I can only tell you that i have had great success with it.

i am an athlete, i train 5 days a week. supplements do in fact work, i always hear people claim good feed and work is all you need, and while that may be enough to get the job done i like to add something extra, with myself and my dogs. to each his own.

    rf-1 is good stuff.

Bullydogs, do you prefer the powder or capsule? Just wondering if their was a difference since you can use a varying amount with the powder. Also, was wondering how it compares with other products like K9 Super Fuel. From what I've read about them, most think the Vertex causes a little weight gain. I also know that different dogs will show different results. I too would like to hear peoples responces on sups. I have never used sups but have been reading a little about them.

I've always been told that things/sorces are best in their natural form as far as diet and nutrition goes. However is not convienent and expensive. Thats why suppliments were invented !!

As mentioned above these are good but not real cheap.

Combine everything............. high grade kibble, raw and suppliment. You cant go wrong!! :-) LOL!

Do what you can afford and for ADBA showing there is no reason to put you dog through a "keep". Good food, hand walk and flirt pole 15 minutes a day and your dog will look just fine. Cut food intake in 1/2 the last 3 days before the show, keep waking and flirting up until the day of the show. No water or food on show day until your done.

Thats all I really do now with the addition of carpet mill for 10 to 15 minutes 3 or 4 days a week. I used to run, walk and sprint my dogs between 3 and 6 miles a day to prep for a show but it was over kill. The dogs loved it but it was wearing me out and taking up alot of time. LOL!

Good luck next year I'm sure we will see you.

HBK, can't wait to see you guys and the Reloaded crew of course. I'm hoping we'll have enough free fundage to come down for your show in addition to doing Kellyville and whatever else is around here. It'll be just my luck crazy bitch comes in heat before K-ville, but we'll see.

Good advice from folks here. I'd still like to see some pictures if at all possible. :)
