just wondering what are some of the challenges some of you may be facing keeping bulldogs in the city. you know neighbors, animal control, dogs that want to bark to damn much. etc.

When I had one, I was in the city. I was living in a penthouse, large balcony etc. The only problem was the walks. Too little freedom and not so many options. Barking was never an issue. If the dog gets excercise, won't get furstrated and will not bark. So, no problem with the rest you mentioned.
Now with two dogs, suburbs are better for everything!

All of those that you named along with limitations on how many dogs you can have by the city ordinance and/or your space requirements. When I was up north in the city I had different yards that I had dogs at and that takes a lot of extra time to drive to each yard and care for the dogs daily. Not the best life for the animals either, IMHO. Not to mention the people that have their dogs crated all day and night because of their space limits. I never did but people do. I love the country and couldn't see going back to the city.

I manage 6 to 10 heads fairly easily in the city. Challenges will very depending on where you live. I live up north on the snow belt so winters are a major challenge. Keeping the dogs quite for the most part is also a challenge at times. Last thing you want to do in an urban environment is bring attention to your yard or be having your neighbors call them boyz. Smell, cleanliness and noise I would say are the 3 biggest challenges with city doggin. Keep those 3 things in check and it's really not that hard of a thing to do, raise dogs in the city. Sure, the county would be better but not everyone has that option. God isn't exactly making any more land. Lol

Agree with AGK, it will vary on the conditions and location.

A lot of things suck about it.. Mainly a space issue, the rest i can deal with. I keep my yard pretty clean and my dogs aren't out enough to create a problem with barking and even if they did, i would just use a bark collar. Here where i am, no way i could have 5 or 6, i have neighbors literally right next to me on both sides and my yard isn't big enough. I could always keep dogs in crates n shit but i would rather not do that, personal preference i guess. Knowing how shitty it really is living in the city with these dogs i will say with me not having space and taking on more than i should, has allowed me to focus on just a couple of dogs for the time being. I really wish i could have a couple more, about once a month i start itching to get another one but i would rather not take that on right now, i feel it would be irresponsible even though i would love another dog. I have lived out in the country before and boy do i ever miss it!

One day i will be back out with some land, until then it's focus on the few dogs i have now..

Oh yea, and just so some don't try to spin my words or make something out of nothing, what I meant by not bringing attention to your yard comment is meant to be taken like, as in, being neighborly, not because one is doing wrong. I know if I didn't like dogs I surely wouldn't want to live next to a yard of them. It's best to be on good terms with your neighbors. Then you don't really have a problem. Many times I've found that my neighbors actually like the idea of dogs in the back if they're not yappers. Most times, mine only bark when something is seen so my older neighbors look at it as a sense of security believe it or not. If my Dogs bark, then my neighbors know someone's where they shouldn't be. Being a good, considerate neighbor can really have its perks if you have outside dogs in the city. Like staffy, I too have neighbors on both sides of me that I could spit out my window and hit there's. We're that close. My back yard though is 140' × 44'. I do 10' chain set ups and have plenty of room for my daughter and her friends to play without being around my dogs. The dogs have 20 foot circles. All except one that's in 5' x 15' run until I get another chain in the ground in the coming days. My point to this rant is, be cool with your neighbors, try to be as considerate as you can and run a clean ship and you'll likely be just fine keeping a small yard in the city. Sometimes dick head neighbor are unavoidable. I have one and I still just try to be as considerate to them, well, as I can be anyway.

It's very possible to have perfectly happy dogs with plenty of room in the city limits, just don't over do it and take on more than you have room for and can possibly take top notch care for and more times than not, you won't have no issues. About all the advice I got on the subject I suppose.

Keep in mind, many well respected dogman that have been very successful in the dogs have been city dwellers..... ;)

When I lived in the city 6 dogs so I would rotate 3 out on chains and 3 inside in crates. Switch them everyday when I got home from work.

I no longer live in the city. But was interested in how you guys' handle it. When i lived in the city I only had one dog because I lived in an apartment. TREEZ I believe you and I are from the same place, not that it means anything just an observation. It's nice to be out in a less populated area, even nicer to have more dogs.

You hit it right on the head, with the smell issue. while living in the city, I lived in a court yard building. well one of my neighbors who happened to be absolutely gorgeous, and the owner of a bulldog. kept getting complaints from other neighbors about smells coming from her apartment. when the land lord went to check on the many complaints he was receiving. he found an apartment loaded with with dog crap, like it was furniture or some shit. needless to say the landlord banned all dogs from the building, gave use all 30 days to remove them. Guess I don't have to say my opinion of her changed pretty quick. Gorgeous but nasty as hell !

Some people are just pigs. I'm on the other end of that spectrum. OCD real bad. Most times my mutts are shitting into my shovel lol. Got to keep it clean. That's universal whether you live in the city or the county. I loose or have lost respect for many people simply by the way they upkeep, or the lack there of it I should say, their yards. Even when folks post on here, pictures of their yards and there is dog shit everywhere, garbage strewn about all up in the chainspots, debris etc. If you are going to keep dogs, for whatever reason you keep dogs, at least have the decency to provide them with a clean living area, fresh water and proper housing and set ups. Them always the people getting shown on tv too. The ones who can't be bothered to pick up a rake or shovel. SMH.
I bleach areas once a month in the nice weather months. Shit gets picked up at least 2 times a day, entire dog area gets raked throughly once a week. I change water buckets every other day, whether they need it or not.

#1 fastest way to have AC come knocking on your door, no neighbor is going to tolerate the constant stentch of dog shit every day. Falls under being considerate of your neighbors.

Lol after I re read my post about how I keep multiple dogs easily in the city I thought about it and it's not really that easy. It's a full time job on top of my full time job. It's easy for me because I choose to not have an outside life. A recluse by nature. I work or I'm home messing with dogs. It really does become an entire lifestyle. Very time consuming and is a lot of work. I love doing it though more so than my professional job so it's not really work to me. Didn't want to give the vision that it's a walk in the park. There certianly is a lot to doing it and even more to do it right.
