I cosign this statement. I heard all the BS surrounding Tom but I figured I would give him a try because I’m reality most people just talk shit just to talk shit. As you said, there’s nothing like experiencing it first hand. Fuck him and his business practices.

This dog was sold to an unsuspecting dope papered as a Ceasar dog.
Stevie Wonder can see that dog is off the Titere shit he was breeding.
The guy probably ended up with a better dog but why the bullshit.
There’s much more but I’m not gonna bash the guy. I Just won’t be doing anymore business with him.

I wish that was all I could complain about. Dude sold me a dog with severe demodex that I still deal with at 2 years old. I’m talking his entire coat will blow out. I brought this shit up to him when the puppy was 4 months old barely and he told me to put him on RF-1(so in other words make more money off of me). Never once tried to make it right by replacing the animal and his attitude was shit. I’ll never deal with him again. I love the animal but I’ll never be able to breed him because I’m not passing this onto a litter.

Agreed. I know some guys that worship the ground he walks on and wheel take a knee as he passes by...he is golden to them. I truly believe Dynomite was down out of the Russ Buck/Cottingham stuff that was parked on the yard for a bit.

My opinion is I cut my teeth on those same Cottingham/Red Boy dogs and when Ch Caballo rolled thru here some years back I had no doubts he was a Red Boy dog. I have had some of the worshipers damn near want to fist fight over my opinion.

Even a former yard man said if a litter sold out it was common practice to reach into the next box and get one out to sell the guy 'what he wants'.

I don't believe the paperwork is always as advertised.

Again, we (collective term for all of us) look thru rose colored glasses at yesteryear and give those 'founding fathers' a pass for the same shit because they were 'protecting their recipe'. Fifty years from now I will bet those are the same thoughts on TG as he will go down as the most successful bull dog breeder in all of time.

Again, I do not feed any of his dogs. And I would not pay that kind of money for a puppy to him, or anyone else for that matter. I'm simply cheap like that.

I don't have but a handful of personal dealing with TG.

Not exactly my experience but an example of people will spend money on wants before needs. I was leaving his cook out a few years back and this guy comes from behind the fence with two puppies, maybe 8-10 weeks old. Even if they were on a fire type sale he spent $2000 to $3000 on those puppies. We walked down the path together and I started my truck to let the A/C cool and watched the guy set the puppies in the from seat of 20+ year old Ford truck. He lifted the hood and added more than a gallon of water and a quart of oil. He has Arkansas plates. I have driven some shit before but I would not have set out out on a water drinking oil eating jalopy and drive 8-10 hours for anything, much less a puppy. But at some point the $3000 could have repaired the truck or bought something better. But the wants outweigh the needs a lot of times.

I know a guy who refinance his house and gave TG $2500 for an inbred El Negro dog way back when and then paid $6500 for a race motor for his round track car. He raced cars hard in the summer and raced dogs even harder in the winter. As he was paying for that race car engine his wife stormed in the machine shop and cursed him like nothing I had ever heard. She said $2500 for a fucking dog and $6500 for a motor and we have to walk on a piece of 3/4" plywood in the bathroom because the floor fell thru two years ago. Wants vs. needs.

If it were not TG it would be the next guy doing the same. It is simply one of the spokes in the wheel and it keeps the game spinning forward.

what is the consensus definition of a peddler? market drives it all seemingly, for better/worse. referring to R. Stevens’ latest book, TG gets his own chapter (as does C. Lopez), interesting stuff - whether one appreciates their contribution to the breed and marketing skills, or not.

a well heeled gent in my circle dropped close to 10K on a couple imported pups over the last couple years. one pup he thought had a little too much possession-aggression around the family, so he gave it to another group member. same well heeled gent then imported a proven stud dog, multiple titles, surveyed etc. for nearly 20K. drop in the bucket. and the gent is happy... the recipient of the rejected dog of fury, even happier.

for me, a health guarantee, observation of the parents in person, hands on puppy assessment etc., and not having to trust a breeder unknown to me personally to pick a dog for me…I’d be willing to spend the extra for it. as for puppies, whether you drop 400 or 2k it's a gamble, pups are always a gamble.

I use to be that guy in the 20 year old truck. Drove it in a tropical storm to get the dog in my avatar. Luckily I can say it paid off and then some. I laugh at myself when I think about where my head was then. To be single and childless again.

I woke up 4 or 5 years ago and realized the only bitches I had were past breeding age. Had some money eating a whole in my pocket, so I decide to get a bitch off Kemo and Dynomite. The bitch off Kemo didn't turn out to be anything special. She still eats my food, but won't ever be bred. The one off Dynomite is special. I can understand the hype surrounding these Dynomite dogs and why people say they are not bred like they are papered. She reminds me of red boy crosses i have fed. To top it all of there is some doubt as how the dam is bred. She has been listed as being off either Auto or Dynomite. I think she off Auto based on markings and build. Don't really care either way because they were both quality dogs. So many half truths and straight up lies in pedigrees I don't even bother registering my dogs. I have got dogs off the hill when they were 500 and I have paid 1200. During this time span I have gotten a few where I questioned the validity of the pedigree. The funny thing is the ones that I questioned were the best ones out of the bunch. Just my experience over the years.

Me too. I wasn't knocking the guy but just using it as an example.

I built a 72 K5 Blazer once and the day we test fired the engine for the first time I used the first fifteen minutes of break in time to go to the store and gas it up and left for a 3 hour drive to see my girlfriend in VA.Beach. My Pops said I was either in heat or stupid but more than likely both.

I had a raggedy Camaro once with a bad ass 355 small block that the only thing it would not pass was the first gas station I came to and the store 1/2 way from work to home to pump up the air shocks.

All the time feeding a shit load of dogs without a care in the world.

Like I said, using that cat to make a point. LOL

Well said. I doubt there is a consensus definition. The best one I have ever heard is that if three breeders are in a room and two of them are in a conversation it is pretty much assured they consider the third guy to be a peddler. LOL

When I had Fila Brasileiros way back when they called each other peddlers as well. Then they coined the phrase "commercial breeders" basically meaning they had good dogs but sold a lot of them.

Being that is more of a show community than working community word of mouth carries more weight as there is no reall means to 'proof the pudding'. In that community the ugly dog can't get a chance to proof his worth. In bulldogs the really well bred dog may not be given the same opportunity/or have the risk taken as his crossed counterpart.

I agree puppies are a gamble no matter their origin or who bred them. That was my opinion and a strong opinion at that, then coupled with I am really cheap, (LOL) I can't spend that kind of cash on a puppy.

If I were a breeder and seen the need for a brood dog who had already proven himself/herself as a producer of dogs than I can at least start to think about spending $$$$ but never for a puppy. Just can't bring myself to do it.

That may be part of the reason I don't give shit how much someone else spends or charges, as I am not going to get in on either end of that game.
