OHMIDOG! : Four Missouri dogfighters sentenced to prison

A federal judge in St. Louis sentenced four Missouri men who admitted taking part in a multi-state dogfighting ring to more than a year of prison each today.

“These dogs were subjected to the kind of cruelty that is sometimes unspeakable for the purpose of entertainment,” U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson said during the sentencing hearing. “Most people would find it difficult to take pleasure in watching two animals tear each other apart. Unfortunately, there are people like you who facilitate this activity.”

Teddy “Teddy Bogart” Kiriakidis, 50, and Ronald Creach, 34, were sentenced to 18 months.* Michael “Missouri Mike” Morgan, 38, and Robert Hackman, 56, were sentenced to one year plus one day in federal prison, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The sentences exceeded federal recommendations.

All four men pleaded guilty in September to a charge of conspiracy to violate federal animal fighting laws. Kiriakidis and Creach received longer sentences because they both have prior felony convictions.

“Animals were severely maimed and killed as part of this conspiracy,” Jackson said. “I have to fashion a sentence that deters … and I hope people think twice about getting involved in this kind of activity.”

The defendants were among more than two dozen people in Missouri, Illinois and other states arrested this summer after an 18-month federal investigation into*dogfighting. More than 400 dogs were seized and handed over to the Humane Society of Missouri in July in what has been called the largest crackdown on dogfighting in U.S. history.

Hackman operated Shake Rattle and Roll Kennel, Morgan operated Cannibal Kennel, and Creach operated Hard Goodbye Kennel.

In their pleas, Hackman and Creach said that after a Jan. 3 fight, Kiriakidis helped electrocute the losing dog, a female pit bull named Roho. Creach admitted that he killed a dog named Shady because she didn’t perform well in a practice fight.

its bs i tell you i never understood why they act the way they do about the sport
    and people culling unwanted dogs
when all they gonna do is kill the good ones

  4. WHAT FRANK? They took 400 plus dogs, they were not culling a damn thing! There is not a kennel in the world with 400 "game" dogs on it!!!

Wether they took 1 dog,400 dogs or 4 million dogs, wether they are "game dogs" or rank currs, the fact is that they stole the dogs from the rightful owners, the people who paid for them, fed them and cleaned up after them. The raids and prison sentences are pretty unfair.:mad:

    damn skippy

  7. Unfair, you have no damn clue if it was unfair! Have you seen the yard? I'm all for people owning a 1,000 dogs if they are cared for the right way! FRANK D, damn skippy what? If you know the people GR32 I can understand you saying the sentence wasn't fair, but not knowing them then you have no clue. Like I said if you know them personally then that is a whole nother story, chances are Frank doesn't and he really thinks that was a yard full of good dogs. Which I can promise it wasn't!

you know what man I dont know them but i know one thing the is good at and thats at exposin the worst of the story
and and from what I read the only thing said bad about the people culled a couple dogs fought a couple dogs

now please believe with the way things are going they would use all they have to show that dog men are crule and if that means stating that there was feces everywhere
no water for the dogs to drink malnourished and emaciated animals they are going to mention it without hesitation

and I dont think you read the whole thing through

it was four guys with a kennel each so Im guessing they had 100 dogs a peice at best

and damn skippy I dont think it right that someone can come take the very animals you put you hard earned money into if they are being maintained correctly
but there are some folks that dont need this breed or any breed

and as far as a yard full of good dogs goes its not impossible depending on what is a good dog to you
now were their dogs they couldve been good dogs I dont know could have been building something great but its only one way to find out and they plead guilty to trying to find out:)

they had some good ones, some of the best in the area. Also the 400 dogs were between over handful of people, not just on one yard.

Just to clarify - the 400 or so dogs came from close to 20 different properties.

I would just say that if one out of every 20 dogs was in rough shape, you would hear way more about that one than the other 19.

I'm all for keeping as many dogs as someone wants,or at least what they can afford to buy. It's an abomonation that the law and the courts will waste time and money on stuff like this. Not to mention what if does to the families of the peope busted.

Currently, in the US, I believe only four states have death by electrocution as an option. In those four states inmates can chose to die by lethal injection.

Death by electrocution is a painful death, man or animal.

Electrocution isn't a way I would have chosen myself but if it's not my dog then it ain't my business.Everybody handles stuff differently. What gets me is the power these animal groups have to ruin peoples lives over an animal. It's unfair to these people and to anyone else that gets their animals taken away.
