To put things in perspective. I am from an area in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire where my ancestors worked in the Pits and the Steel works. Some were well off and owned entire rows of houses and had servants others not so much.

My Grandad lost his leg down the Pit at 16 when a cart ran over him, he is now 79 and still going strong. His brother and my Great Uncle both died in the Second World War and my other Grandad was hit by a bomb whilst driving his Superior.

In the days of the Steel works that Sheffield is famous for they would drink watered down beer to keep them cool as the water was not of drinking quality. When they finished a 14-16 hour shift they then headed straight for the local pub and drank more.

They were as likely to fight each other as they would fight any dogs so that mentality can be admired and had it's place in those hard times.

I get that aspect of the game. At the end of the day as a meat eater I am a Hypocrite as I don't mind Cattle being raised in cramped conditions fed hormones for making milk or meat same with any animal like chickens, pigs, sheep etc.

Why is one animal viewed above others where cruelty or harm is encountered.

The last Pig Syndrome If you ever read about it is as bad as it get's. Why is it okay to slaughter cattle yet they show poachers in poor African countries hunting Rhino, Elephants and Lions just to survive in a bad light?

The world is a crazy place and people are too hung up on insignificant details now we are so called civilised, yet we kill each other in the thousands every day.

Maybe someone can change my mind and If I had a dog to be proud of that enjoyed the sport then I guess it would be possible. The other dog I had would have loved getting at anything if he could.

Like AGK said there is really no comparison. 99% of all dogs will choose flight over fight. That covers every breed. Most people believe their beloved spot will protect them when the shit hits the fan but it is a false sense of hope, or a mistaken attempt at the warm fuzzies. Truth is very few dogs will defend if flight is an option.

I have seen very few, very few pitbulls that will protect unless trained specifically to do so. Even dogs who are trained in sport activities or personal protection dogs are not fighting, as it is a game. The dogs with natural prey drive have that prey drive worked, mix in some defense and the dog will fight, but not to the intensity if he were fighting for his life. Two different degrees of intensity.

The issue is then how much the other can take. When a service dog goes onto a human it takes very few bites for the human to cur and scream for help. Very little. Another dog, the intensity ramps a little but in just a few seconds one will bail. Just the way it is.

Two dogs who want to be there is entirely different than anything else. Like it was said, apples and oranges.

And when a person says I like bull dogs but I would never let that happen to my dog. I say great. The dog game is not for everyone. It shouldn't be and it isn't.

I am a big fan of any sport or activity that people put their dogs in, bulldogs or not, just do something with your dogs.

I doubt anyone or any dog would change your mind. Once a person is on one side of the fence it is very hard, almost impossible to jump that fence. And that is a good thing. Most that do it or have done it came about it by happen chance. Very few woke up one morning and say "I wanna be in the game'.

    Great series of posts.

An Harry Hargrove was as good as it gets using a free spinning slat mill. He could use the mill and make a dog stronger longer. He was good at what he did. And at the time very few of the dogs there was his, it was more of him letting someone use his yard. That person left a trail of dope that led to the yard. It was not like some top notch investigation.

I dont get you man , you said you dont like to see dogs hurt but I guess your ok if a human gets hurt? Do you think boxers dont get hurt? Do you thing dogs used for hog hunting dont get hurt? Do you think football players carried out on stretchers dont get hurt? So you can watch and tolerate all those other sports but you cannot and or will not watch 2 dogs fight if it was legal? things that make you go hmmmm LOL > http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/03/06/09/31E9B57500000578-3478699-Nate_Diaz_celebrates_after_submitting_Conor_McGregor_in_the_seco-a-1_1457256510844.jpg LOL....

...good read Slim,,, the old man is dead game and the last of a dying breed...
...served five on his knuckles for his beliefs and never harmed anyone in doing so...
...served our country in vietnam,,, and other than irish jerry getting him in trouble,,,
the war eagle had no other quarks other than his passion,,,
and yes he should have killed someone as he would have got a slap on the wrist,,,
unlike mr boudreaux and mr patrick,,, when mr hargroves got behind a bulldog,,,
one thing is for sure,,, it wasnt to breed them...

they went after him as they tried to crack mr mims about the ch showdown dog that vick owned,,,
both mr mims and vick wouldnt roll over on the legend...

a man by the name of oshea that ran the performance apbt magazine and was known as carolina hot boys was
as mr hargrove put,,, like a son to him as he mentored him and oshea was an upcoming dogman with more than a great mentor,,, but a great gift as he was polishing his understanding very young...
Oshea was allie with lockdown rudy and other notable dogmen in the caribean in which he travelled back and forth,,, well oshae was raided for dope and buying a new truck with some settlement money and he had a bigger treasure trove of stuff that robertosilva,,, and one thing led to another and he curred out...
remember Mr Hargroves treated him as a son and put him up there as a dogfriend as he did Bob Finley,,,
as he has ex wives and ex nephews that didi him dirty and he never thought it was in osheas character to cur...

Osea had the ch eedy the great that penetration lost to and harry told chuck,,,
you dont have to bet so much money and go so far to show you whos the best
as chuck avoided him with both gr ch tippy and gr ch pocket rocket,,,
the war eagle sought the best and penetration chased the most money...

the moral of the storey would be ,,,
    fuck the world!!!

MESSAGE 1...TRUST...you cant trust nobody including someone you took on as a son,,,
MESSAGE 2...PAPERS...both ch showdown and ch eedy the great were merely paper trails to buck hill road,,,
MESSAGE 3...DOPE...oshae was one of many including joe glo or glover from pittsburghs real deal kennels and later started geehad kennels,,,a real piece of shit,,, the mac nasty type of selling dope,,, cheating and ratting,,,
joe glo sold the ch black rascal dog to the late mr ratliff for wsk cowboy type money and stole him back...
joe took someone to mr hargroves to both roll and buy dogs and that all they needed for the conviction...

fuck em one fuck em all,,,
    watch em fall,,, dominoes...

I dont agree with the way Mr Hargorves treated his dogs as livestock either,,,
but I also understand he is a more a victim of his culture in which he has no shame,,,
just as those whom eat factory meat in deplorable conditions,,, but care about what others do with their animals,,,
the more domisticated the more they seperate them from an animal,,, an old saying they shoot horses dont they???
my last MESSAGE would be,,, dont admire the breed and condemn the soul behind it...

Re: OHMIDOG! : Dogfighting "legend" Harry Hargrove sentenced to five years in prison

Good post. Mr. Hargrove was not perfect. A number of years ago Mr. Hargrove made a couple of bad decisions and he admitted he drove himself in the corner and did not have a way out. He took the wrong way per se, but the last two times he stood tall and paid the price. Far too heavy a price for what he was charged with and like it was said he would about the time, he would have done less for killing someone or kicking the shit out of a kid or wife or something like that.

20 years ago his animals didn't look like what he got hung up on in 2010/11. Of the 35 dogs there maybe 8-10 was his and those 8-10 were cleaned up behind and taken care of much better than the 25 or so others. When a person wakes up in the morning from an all nighter and has to choose between raking shit and smoking crack, well the dogs come up short.

Mr. Hargrove did treat his dogs like livestock. They were either capable of winning or not. In reality there was no gray area. He put down dogs that a lot of people would have loved to own/breed/perpetuate. I have known a couple the same way. They won a bunch of matches over the years but no one readily knows their names because they just matched dogs, they didn't breed the winners and sell a bunch of puppies. HH sold a few here and there, hardly ever for profit but more so to cover the next pot.

When it comes to schooling a dog, shaping a dog and winning HH ranks up there with the best of them. If he got out, sat on his laurels and sold a bunch of puppies he would have been revered in a better light. But at the same time would have been the victim of a needless raid like the Beaudreaux's/Patrick's/Faron's etc. etc.

That is giving due respect. In the grand scheme of things HH made a decision in the 80's that hurt some people real close to home. He gets the respect he deserves in the dogs but karma did not serve him so well.

Well people minding their own business is one of the major things that have changed. Way to many people "against" things they have no clue about, like I was taught growing up,you can't not like something you've never done!

Lmao same here. What other people do is none of my business. Just pointing out it's not my thing personally and if you do something classed as illegal by the law for 40 years then you can't really complain when you knew the consequences.

People might not agree with some laws but they are the laws of the land and can be enforced wether you agree with them or not.

I think someone maybe Don Mayfield said of Earl Tudor "he was probably the only dog man in America that didn't know dog fighting was illegal".

Well me personally I don't follow the laws of man. They can still try to enforce then but most would be moot if people minded their business. What I do that on my property with my property is my business, without someone running their mouth about it they have no right to come on to my property to have a clue about it. What's more concerning to me is the wasted money in incarcerating a 78 YO man for five years

I grew up in A family of Cockers, but always been interested in the dogs! I don't consider myself A cruel person! Never keep more than I can give attention to, I have raised Walkers, Beagles, and Black & Tans. The thing is because of bleeding hearts, you have to search far and wide for A pack that can still hunt! I'm getting up in years, my Game Dogs will be passed on to somebody (not for money) who I deem solid! Without culling testing all you have is just A dog, the same way some of the great hunting strains have gone! Then on the other hand you have people looking back in pedigrees who see tight breeding's the combat and brood stock it produced! Like Hienzel,Boudreaux, E.Crenshaw, but what most don't realize these tight bredings arnt done on unhealthy dogs!! Unhealthy dogs were culled NO MATTER how good the breeding looked on paper! I just cant believe the amount of sick dogs I've seen in the last 20 yrs.!! People keep breeding them, thinking they missed on there keep, or the dogs A cur because there hind legs are gone in 20/40 min. off the chain! In A few weeks I'll be out of pocket I hope I can leave some of the younger member with just one thing when breding for preformance spend A few $$$$ and have A work up on that next breding. Could save you alot of time, money and frustration! Good Luck Everybody, once I'm gone I'll touch base next year!

Well it is all what it is and I am sure HH wont be complaining or whining he lived the life he wanted and thats a wrap. He served his country and then they took his pention(scum)As for persons joining a gamedog forum posting mad shit, talking about articles about breeders and real dogmen and dog matches, talking about all kind of dog videos etc. and then tucking tail and claiming humanity and the law...well eat shit.

Nothing that isn't already on the internet on many other websites and forums. If I can find lots of articles then sure as hell someone who hates the dogs and wants them eradicated can do much more digging.

I'm not claiming jack Sh!t. just saying it isn't my thing and if someone breaks well advertised laws then they can expect a knock on the door at some time.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it ya Dingleberry.

    To quote Sonny Sykes.

"Do you believe the magazines are doing any good to this cause? I don’t know. We are the same ones that advertise our last and next move in a magazine.
Do you know of a bank robber that puts in a magazine that he robbed a bank in only three minutes? And that he is going to rob this and
    that bank next month?
No, we are the only ones that advertise their actions in a book that we
know are against the law. So what does that tell you ?.....That we are lousy bank robbers! Right now"

You bring up A good point Robt.! No way im try'n to convince anybody it's right or wrong, just about like spitting into the wind! The things that happened with the dogs, as A lot of us could see at the time, same ting with Game Cocks! Graphic right up's in heavely circulated magazines. When I first really got exposed to dogs, I remember 'old timers' saying we need to tone this shit down!!! Game Cock magazines graphic reports on long knife matches! Pit Bull magazines graphic blow by blow description of matches like (killed in pit) profuse bleeding from stifels, nose gone etc etc!!! All fodder for A Corporate take over of Animal Lovers!!!! AS soon as this stuff went national it was A matter of time! I have worked my ass off to get the stock I have! No way I keep anything incriminating around the house! So now I don't match dogs anymore, it's just A hobby! I remember Carlisle Howard telling me because of his supervisor position they said either you get rid of your dogs or your fired!! That was the early 70's! So even though I was pictured in several magazines early 70's I MADE SURE MY NAME WAS"NT!! Lets face it if you win you win unless you have an ego problumn or want to peddle why would you post it online in magazines???? The Game community hung it's self!!!
