Discussion in 'Rescue & Adoption' started by losinghope82, Nov 26, 2006.

  1. 1. The title of the section I posted in says RESCUE.
    2. The females are pure pit, but he is allowing them to be bred by whatever, whenever. The female this puppy came from wasn't even a year old.
    3. I do not believe in chains as a rule of thumb per say. I believe that they are part of my family, so they are in the home and not out on a chain. My sibes, when I had them, were in fenced in yards, and no chains. My main thing with chains are the people that don't use a collar....
    4. I know the ribs are suppose to be seen. I have researched enough to know that. She has constant diarhhea, which can be from worms, the pup had coccidia...
    5. If he is going to own a dog, any dog... he should take the necessary steps to make sure it is healthy. Checkups, food that does not go in one end and pour out the other. People already have bad opinions about this breed, the last thing they need is someone who is neglectful and causes the dog to go crazy and do things it shouldn't. I know any dog breed can be caused to do that, but as I said, these really don't need any bad press because all they hear is Pit Bull and bite or whatever...
    6. He is my husband's uncle, so..... and I am personally involved because no animal should be so sick and down it can't walk, raise it's head. No meat on it's bones... and really don't care about it.

Loving Siberian Huskies as much as I do, I would be thrilled to hear someone was trying to keep one from a horrible existance and try to point them in the right direction instead of making it seem like I am defending the person who is doing something wrong.

Even after all the blood, sweat, tears, time and money I have put into this puppy and I can't get him a home he deserves and must be put down. I won't accept it, but it might have to happen. I am not even conceeding to that yet. I am not going to give up so easily. He isn't going to the shelter here who puts pits down no matter what, ideally, I want him to maybe be fostered by someone who has the experience needed and be able to screen homes better than I could.... Then, find a forever home that he can live out the rest of his hopefully long days with a family that loves him more than anyone could ever imagine. Sorry if that is too much to hope for.

As for all of your points, I completely see what you are saying. I am feeling like maybe you feel like I am attacking you, when in fact I am agreeing with you, and now it is very clear as to your relation to the owner of dogs in question.

I wasnt trying to paint a hopeless picture for the dog, just looking at the obsticles in the way, and I am glad that you are up to the challenge. It is possible that someone here will help you. And I did not realize this was in the Rescue section, (although it is a section, and not the web site), and sorry if I offended you. It is clear that your heart is into what you are doing.

We are very ....defensive?apprehensive?retallitory? because of our rights being taken away from AR, PETA, etc. Thus the "peering into your yard" comment(and I may be out of line speaking for someone else, please correct me if I am wrong). Can you understand how we may be that way? If the media/AR/Peta were openly trying to kill and make your Huskies extinct, you may very well be the same way. Maybe not. (and I believe that they are just working their way down the food chain, so beware).

As I said, I meant nothing offensive in what I said, and am in agreement with you, yet if I offended, please forgive me. I hope you find good homes for this pup and the rest, and I hope the dogs get spayed!!

Being that it's your husband's uncle, does your husband offer any kind of solution?

    Just curious, ...

  4. Purplepig, that is what triggered my being upset. I am trying to keep him from dying, from keeping the others from going through what he went through and stopping the 3 females from being bred by God only knows and possibly just being another well, there goes another pit biting someone and no one knowing that it was how they were taken care of and not that they were a certain breed because I know you can make any dog you want mean and hateful just by the way you care for it or well don't care for it.

All I am basically trying to say is that, no I am not in love with this breed (but as stated not because I buy into the hype of blood thirsty killers because I wouldn't have brought him home) just huskies are my dog of choice.... but I believe that they all deserve to be taken care of, and loved, and sure as hell worth more than what they have all been put through. I don't think that any one group of people should have the right to say that you can't own a certain dog because of a group of people that are like my husband's uncle etc. I agree with the punish the deed and not the breed, but I wish it would be taken a step further and make it to where if the owner caused the dog to do something bad like mauling of a child etc, whatever the dog gets, they should get too.

I wish there was an answer, and I wish there was a better way. As a society we always take it out those we don't understand, or so it seems don't want to understand.
I did a website for temperment testing and lol, the pits scored better than collies, golden's and something else I believe. They score in the 80's!

Sorry if anyone thought I am being too extreme and looking to help exterminate, but as I said before they should all have good homes, and a chance... maybe then they wouldn't be targeted as an evil breed.

Losinghope, maybe this could be a good thing. Maybe if all of us dog folks, of many breeds would ban together we could get done just what you said, and really punish the deed(people inclusive)and not the breed. Maybe I live in a hole( I am in the sticks), but I have never thought of other breed owners joining with us. Is this happening? If not, I am sure that there are more folks that feel as you and I do than dont. Heck, just within our little bulldog group there is so much division that there is no way we will stand if we dont change. It just seems so big, but I KNOW if we could put aside our petty differences we could change this garbage legislation. And, if my car hits someone, I am liable, even if it is my child driving, I am liable, but they dont get rid of cars, so I dont understand how these laws are able to be passed, except that the silent majority lets the minority take our rights!!

    Ok. off the soapbox.LOL
I do hope this whole thing works out better than expected. And thank you for capitalizing His name. It is nice to see respect for the King!!!

  6. I am afraid this guy is going to be really really small. Like I said, he is only 7.2lbs as of saturday, and he was born sept. 4, 2006. He chewed the tip of his tale, but other than that he is beautiful ( like pits or not, no one has been able to deny that!) When they are puppies, is it bad that you can't see the ribs? Maybe that is part of why I don't care for them, but they aren't as bad as Greyhounds etc they just look fraile.

I wish all dog owners would group together and fight things like mistreatment and banning breeds. If I am not willing to fight for a pit or any other dog/animal regardless if I love that breed or not, who is going to be there when I or a breed that I love needs help. You can't really ask for help if you are not willing to give it.

Back to the puppy. I am feeding him Euk. Large breed and his hip problems have gone away, and the problems with his front leg are going away. He is getting his shots, and I am starting to weigh him every week now. He is on Albon due to Coccidia. I am lucky to have fingers or toes, lol because like any puppy he is trying to chew them off. He loves to go outside and play but it is hard because hubby has a chi puppy born on the same date as him but is a little bit bigger, lol and he thinks he is a mack truck and Chewbie is the pavement. He is getting wormed every week with strongid. I prefer panacur now, but I have a ton of strongid left. I am working on housebreaking him (always a good point when trying to rehome, and hoping they will keep him in the house.).
I take him to be weighed every saturday. This is past thursday was the third one. The first saturday he weighed 3.9lbs. The second 5.6lbs and this past saturday he was 7.2lbs.
Anyone have any suggestions, is his weight bad, good.... I will try to post better pics later.

Sounds like you are doing a terrific job. As to the weight, some are 30lbs grown, the smallest I have heard of is 17# grown, most are around 40#. You will be able to see the ribs on a pup(compared to a thick coated dog as your Huskies), yet it should still have the puppy fat. If the spine is sticking out, I would be concerned, but it sounds like his needs are being met, it is better for him to gain slowly. Your taking care of the cocidia(however you spell it), worming and shots, feeding good kibble, and giving him TLC, ...your a pro. He's doing fine, they are very resilient dogs, even the mixes.

There is a woman who frequents here, Mary Ellen, I keep hoping she will post and maybe offer advice. I may be wrong, but seems like she (or whoever I am mistaking her for) has helped some even be rehomed out of country!!

    Keep up the good work!

I agree that you are doing a good job with what is front of you, but, why can't you stand up to this uncle? take the dog and get her spayed,,what could he do? My family and friends know how I feel about breeding anything that is not worthy. As far as chains go, you have to stick around and you will see why that is a must.

  9. Incase anyone cares, I did end up finding a great home for this little guy.

Just bring the dog to me and I will place it in a proper home for you. I don't feel that you know what to look for in an owner for this breed. I know just who to place the pup with.

  12. I worked with a vet tech at our local animal hospital who happens to own pits. He was placed in a home that has owned several. They took him to get him neutered the very day they got him. Infact, I met them at the clinic. That was a condition of them taking him. They have a fenced in yard, and they have owned them before. I checked out their home and got to see their other dogs. Even though I don't know pits, I know dogs and half way know what to look. The other dogs were clean, well fed. They were in the house but I checked out their play area. I got to see vet records for them all, current ones too. The dogs were all happy to play with uis

There is another litter of puppies that he has. There are eight of them
