Need help

Discussion in 'Rescue & Adoption' started by losinghope82, Nov 26, 2006.

  1. I need some help with finding a home for a pit mix puppy born Sept. 4, 2006.
He came to me in bad shape. I had to use a syringe to feed him formula and pedialyte and water. He is now eating solid food. He had problems with his hips, but since switching him to large breed formula of food that has gone away. He now weighs 7.2lbs.
I don't want to sound bad, but I personally don't like pitts. Not that I think they are an evil breed and should all die... I believe that they need to be handled by people that know what they are doing. I am a strong believer in the fact that the reason most dogs go crazy and bite from a pitt to a little chi is because of their care. I just prefer siberian huskies over any and all dogs! I took this guy in because I thought he should have a chance to live, and that he deserved better than how he was being treated. He was taken away from mommy at 2 to 3 weeks. He has come a long way and I want him to have a home that knows what they are doing and will love him. We live in SE Missouri. I just don't know how to go about finding him a good home.

Contact your local pit bull rescue. They can probably find someone to foster him. If you don't know who your local pit bull rescue is, try finding out who it is via an online search or ask your local shelter.

    Good luck! ;)

  3. I am not finding any locally. Everyone that could take him is full. I am also going to be needing to find homes for another litter that this idiot let another of his females have. I am working on getting them taken away from him.

I am a supporter of euthinasia. If your having issues placing this one pup....probably should reconsider taking away or taking on a litter of pups. With all your efforts wheres your solution.

    Good point simms.

  6. I will find a home for this guy. I am not going to let him die. I am in process of getting his unaltered breed with whatever on chains or retractable leashes for tieouts taken away by a group of people who can do what I am trying to do way more successfully. I haven't found a solution yet, but it sure as hell won't be to have him and others put down.

I came here thinking on a rescue forum I could get more support and more direction on who to contact to help him get the best home and chance possible. Guess I was wrong.

  7. Not great pics, but.... The last one is the mommy taken before the puppies were taken away from her.

What ? Do you have an issue with chaining ?

    Am I reading this correctly?

Whats wrong with her? Honestly I cant see anything wrong with her?

  10. Chaining without adequate shelter, using a retractable leash as a chain. What you don't see is how skinny she is, how he hits her when she does something he doesn't want her too. The fact she isn't fixed and is left outside to be bred with anything and everything along with 2 other unaltered females. He takes the puppies away between 2 to 4 weeks................. He isn't RESPONSIBLE is what is WRONG. That is why they will eventually be taken away.............. Sorry you don't understand.

  11. That wire crate behind her, that is her dog house. She was being put into a crate with the other two females.

    Details are every thing....

I can easily predict where this conversation will lead.....careful who's fence you may be peering over.

What have you said to him personally? Do you think talking to him face to face might help your cause? From my personal experience most dog owners jump at the chance to receive help if they are in dire straights...have you offered your assistance in helping him learn to be a more responsible owner or are you assuming he isn't approachable?
I have helped many dogs/owners in my local outreach program simply by knocking on a front door and offering my assistance to someone who's dogs really need it. You'd be surprised how much people are willing to work with you when you show up on their doorstep with a bag of dogfood and tell them you want to help them keep their dogs. Do you know why he appears to be having difficulties feeding his dogs? What's his story? How much do you know about this guy? The bottom line is...do we want to help him keep the dogs or simply place the animals in an overflowing rescue population by making him out to be the bad guy? Is he a bad guy or someone worthy of aid from you? Could you tell him you are willing to help him place the pups, and then get him into a low cost spay and neuter program to prevent future litters? I do it here all the time. We work with dog owners here, not against them, is this an option for you as well?

**Edit-- as far as him hitting his dogs goes...perhaps he is uncertain of other ways to discipline- is this an opportunity to educate someone?

  14. I quit talking after he let his beagle get hit by a car and a chi/shi mix puppy die because he was too infested w/ worms. He doesn't believe in taking them to a vet or preventative care peroid. Guess he learned from his dad when he was a kid. When their dogs or cats had babies, his dad would put them in a sack and dump them in the river.

Look, the point is, I need help finding this guy a home. Bash my reasoning or not, but give me some idea of how to go about this.

I dont think you are being bashed, people here are just ....unpolished, and to the point. Also it is very easy to take a typed word and hear an attitude, I know I have jumped conclusions.

Also, this is a site for bulldog owners, not a rescue site. That does not mean there are not folks on here that are into rescue. Most of us do help out in this, as we agree with you, this breed is not for everyone. It sounds to me like you are either describing a byb(he gets rid of the pups between 2-4 weeks, sounded repetative to me, like he does this allot), or an idiot who doesnt care if the dog has litter after litter, like many cat owners around her. I do wish I could help you, and understand how you feel about the no kill thing, but sometimes you must choose between two evils, and you would be saving other pups by getting them neutered. I for one, would rather be put down than have to struggle, full of worms, with a miserable life. In a perfect world every one would find a good home, but we dont live there do we?And to compound the trouble, the media propogating the "evil pit bulls" makes finding homes that much harder, because people dont realize what you have stated, Punish the deed, not the breed.

So, the guy is allowing mutts to be bred, getting rid of them at 2-4 weeks, ...yea, I dont approve.

As far as the pic you posted, the dog looks in health to me also. You do realize that the ribs are supposed to show with these dogs? If the spine is sticking out that is another thing, but the ribs should show. If the ribs dont show, THAT is bad for them.
