Merry Christmas- are dogs getting bigger???

First off let me wish everyone on this forum a very Merry Christmas! I’ve learned a lot reading the vast pool of knowledge (and sometimes the lack there of) posted from those that know and are willing to share on this site. Thank you!

    secondly:
This last year I’ve tried to talk to some breeders that will impart some honest knowledge to me in the search for a good bitch that I can enjoy and possibly breed if my situation would allow.
However, I don’t want a 65lb dog, nor do I want a dog that has been line bred to the point that it has issues from being kept so tight. I’m looking for a pet first and if really good I’d entertain the notion of trying a breeding once just to see how it worked out.

So, I guess my question would be to those that have been in the business dating back to the 70’s and 80’s. Are bulldogs getting larger on average??
My favorite dogs over the years have weighed in the neighborhood if 40-55lbs when exercised and fed properly. In the last decade, finding dogs with pedigrees that produce dogs in that range have been difficult, at least without some of the issues I stated above.

Are there any blood lines or breeders that consistently produce dogs in that size range that you could point me towards. I love the RBJ dogs but many of the ones I’ve considered end up being larger than I want. Cost is also a consideration. I’d like to spend no more that $1,000 and less if possible. I’m not looking to start a yard or breeding program. Just looking for the experience of owning a healthy well bred bulldog I can enjoy working with.

thank you in advance for your replies.
