Band dog is not an am bully.

This isn't my lie to perpetuate. I have no vested interest in this type of animal or breedings.

Oh my. You've been busy while I slept cali!

If you will read my posts carefully, NO WHERE did I say ALL merles are pure. It was also pointed out by none other than um, let's see ... ME, that CLDs WERE crossed with APBTs (along with other breeds) & some of these merles indeed could be the result of a past or present crossing to the CLD. (Please see post #19 of this thread).

As for other people not admitting mixes, they have. Swinford openly admitted his bandogges were mixes. Fanciers in the know concerning Whopper dogs (which are registered as pure APBT BTW) have openly admitted them to be mixes. Dave Wilson of RE Knls openly admitted (some) AmBullies lines are mixes. The fact is, most of the other popular lines of questionable breeding have had someone stand up & say "YES, there was a mix" ... except merle. No one has yet to do that concerning them.

I will say it once & I will say it again - some merles ARE mixed bred. But other merles ARE purebred. There are BOTH types out there, mixed and pure.

Accept that if you want, deny it if you want. It's up to you. You're entitled to your opinion & again, I respect that. All I ask is you don't pass off your OPINION as a fact.

Off to work, have a great day everyone! :)

EDIT: BTW cali, if you want to see where I continue to hammer home the fact *some* merles ARE mixed, please see posts 82, 105 & 111 as well. I'm not some blind lemming. I DO know the history of the breed & I DO know some of the crosses that have been made. My thing is that while there are indeed crosses out there, is there are also purebred merles too.

Merle will show weakly & sometimes not show at all on a buckin coat. Sometimes if the dog is a color like cream, yellow or buckskin, the only way to tell if it's merle or not is by eye or nose color! It will not be shown on the coat.

Here is a link on merles & yellow-phase coats:
    http://www.ashgi.org/color/yellow_aussies.htm

The article is about Aussies, but please keep in mind that colors & patterns are not BREED specific, they're COLOR specific, meaning even though this article is about Aussies, what it details concerning color would apply to APBTs (or any other breed) too.

So what color were the pups of this breeding? That also can reveal a cryptic.

Sorry to double post, but I also found the info on the Stratton book this morning. The book is "The Truth About the American Pit Bull Terrier" & the merle dog John Wayne can be found on page 155.
