He came along in a weak era, then coupled with D'Amato, there was nothing really out there.

At the rate he was going, the caliber of preparation and the honing/directing of that punching power, he would have won 60 plus fights.

At that time the only question to him being the greatest is that there was nothing in the era. Holyfield had the heart but he was too small for the division. Foreman was already in the geritol league. Lennox Lewis had all the physical skills but never showed or had to show heart from being hurt.

Tyson became a punching bag after the loss of D'Amato and the dumping of Cayton. With no prep work or training Lewis exposed his lack of mental capacity to re-use what had worked numerous times. Conditioning and foot work. Holyfield exposed he was a pre-dispositioned robot. "I must kill"..."I must kill".... But first, Douglas was able to shock the world. As the world was being shocked many insiders and boxing enthusiasts could see the writing on the wall.

With all that negative comment. He was/is still my favorite fighter. In MMA it is and til something changes in Wandelei Silva. He and Mike were guarantees on the PPV being worth the price. Someone was going to get stretched out.

I agree with you 100 percent! I tell people all the time Mike was a great fighter and we didn't even get to see what he could of been. I know Mike and Lennox use to have some gym wars before they were pro's I think and Mike would get the best of him. Was never a big fan of Lennox he is a gifted athlete for a big man but there was just something about his style I didn't like. I have always liked the smaller shorter Heavy weights Such as Frazer/Tyson/Dempsey/Bonavena/Marciano/Chuvalo/Cooper there is something about that bobbing weaving hooking style I love but there is nobody that uses it today which is stupid because a lot of those guys I listed were high ranked/champion fighters. Now we are stuck with big tomato can stiffs.

Like I said in one of my other post the most neglected aspect of a fighter is his smarts...smart fighters are like Anderson Silva, Mayweather, Jon Jones and even Connor as they are always thinking and adapting....These type of fighters remind me of Gamblers Grand Champion Virgil line of dogs, in which they are very smart with natural athletic talent.

Great comparison. We bought a couple off of Virgil and then bred to him. He did throw intelligence. All of our dogs looked really slow at the get go, very methodical, border line disinterested but all the time working to a spot. Of all the Virgil dogs I saw I can't think of any that won the first ten minutes of anything. From nothing, to a sprint, to an all out finish. Brains to match the physical skills.

Smart fighters who are fundamentally sound can still fight and compete at the highest level even when Father Time starts whittling at their physical skills.

The dumb guy has to hang it up when the physical skills start to fade. Or hang around to be a punching bag.

The money will be in the pay per view as I can't see it drawing many bets. Money will be so heavily favored the odds will be out of this world.

I would have lost money because I would have bet it never would happen. And I'm still leaning that way.

I can see all the dollars to be made but I can't see the point. With anyone else in the world MacGregor has a puncher's chance. Against the greatest boxer of all time things are a lot different.

Not my PPV money by the way.

I've had one for about a year now and love it. I was spending 120 a month on cable to watch barely anything. Now I pay 40 a month for WiFi and watch whatever I want whenever I want. The last time I payed for ppv was when Mike tyson fought Buster Douglas (I think that's who it was not 100%, was a long time ago). Spent like 70 bucks to miss the fight. As it was about to start i went to make popcorn. Takes 2 minutes. Came back and he already knocked him out and I had to watch it on replay. Never spent money on PPV again.
