Interview with Alfred Ramirez

Discussion in 'APBT History' started by GeorgeStrait, Jun 30, 2022.

  1. I seen this historical informative interview with the great legend of the Pitbull breed Dogman Alfred Ramirez on facebook and deepL translated it. Must be from years ago.

    Interview with Alfred

(Interview made by A.H to Alfred - Machobuck blood line-)

Interviewer) Since when was your passion for the APBT born in you, could you tell us about your beginnings?

Alfred) Since I was 15 years old, with a 1/4 Labrador and 3/4 Pit Bull.

Interviewer) Which were the best lines and dogman in your beginnings?

Alfred) At that time I admired the only ones I listened to and they were Bert Sorrels, Carl Mims, Katy Marlow and STP. I must admit I was not successful at all back then, in principle, through not knowing, vendita ignorance, my mentor came much later.

Interviewer) What were the first good dogs you saw?

Alfred) I remember Bossman and Money Montanna, one dog from Mad and the other from his friend Lightning a student of Creel, at that time they were amazing to me.

Interviewer) What was your first APBT, how did you get it and what family of dogs did it come from?

Alfred) My first APBT was named Bono, he was half Old Family Red out of a dog named Doc Whitehead, and a 3/4 Colby - 1/4 kingfish bitch, honestly I must say he was not a good dog, then I found out his parents were not either, again blissful ignorance!

Interviewer) Could you elaborate on what was your first successful crossbreeding and what families of dogs did they come from?

Alfred) The first successful crossbreeding was with Roger Le Blanc's dogs that were from the Snooty x Bolio line, but specifically from our crosses was when we mounted Macho (a son of Mayday) with a Le Blanc bitch. They were not like the dogs we have today, but they were fine back then anyway.

Interviewer) How did your dogs evolve and at what point did you realize you had reached a level of excellence?

Alfred) We evolved when my brother crossed a female named Macha with dog 357. My brother was traveling when Macha was about to whelp and asked me to please help him with the litter while he returned from Houston. If no puppies had died when he returned he would give me one of my own choice. When I arrived there were all 10 puppies alive, but my brother then told me: I won't give you a puppy if you don't take care of them until they are 6 weeks old "and without any of them dying! Again, if I did something wrong and one died, he would not give me anything, typical of Alberto. The time finally came, the 6 weeks went by without any problems, but again he said "NO", the deal would be that you take care of them until I sell the last puppy.

Well... at 6 months after having a free slave cleaning excrement and working 100 hours per week... From OHK came a person as a "lark" and luckily the last puppy left. Finally with a bandit smile he gave me the papers, but with his signature as a partner of a dog that to this day tells people that he "gave it to me", if that's what you call giving away, imagine if he sells it to me!

But as life is a back and forth, Machobuck turned out to be a unique dog as he has irrefutably demonstrated. This great dog brought all the qualities that were missing.

Interviewer) Which dog from your yard do you currently visualize as being able to achieve great accomplishments as a pit dog?

Alfred) All our dogs have their own. I love "Sam Jr", but the dog that steals my heart is "Comino", for me he is the best I have ever had in my hands!

Interviewer) How do you manage to maintain a successful family of dogs over time, do you use inbreeding, linebreeding or do you prefer outcross by performance?

Alfred) The most difficult thing is selfishness and to remove the belief that only one blood line is good.

Interviewer) Is it difficult to transmit good qualities to the offspring?

Alfred) All the good qualities and characteristics are easy to transmit, only that nobody crosses for them, they cross to see a pedigree or repeat a dog a thousand times without having the slightest idea of what will come out or why they are crossing.

Interviewer) If you had to work with a blood outside your own, which breeders and dogs would you choose or at least do you respect today?

Alfred) If I had to buy dogs today I would buy from a friend who has the best of Queen of hearts with Gr Ch Buck or from CML the best of Mayday and Little John, Tramp blood and a touch of Eli.

Interviewer) What do you think about the extermination of the dogs in the kennel yards in the USA, paradoxically the place where this breed has had the greatest development and final evolution in recent times?

Alfred) My respects to those who live in the USA. No words for the massacre of so many good animals.

Interviewer) What do you think of the growing popularity of the breed, the fashions that have been imposed on the morphology of these dogs?

Alfred) The Pit Bull should be for fighting or showing in conformation. It should not be used for guarding and should not be heavier than 23 Kilos or 25 kilos maximum! Those who sell something else should do it, but money should not be the only reason to cross them, because good dogs do not come out if there is no justified reason to cross them.
