I learnt this lesson the hard way myself... I also had a very sim situation at a park when my dog was 6 months or so? I did my best to make my dog and the breed not look worse and just walked away saying nothing as i might of beat his ass if i got to upset. He said almost the exact same thing to me this guy said to you. I ended up getting a letter in the mail as the guy took my plate and filed a complaint. Did i put my dog on a leash after that? NO i did not, Fast forward like a year and what happened next lander her on leash at all times and she has not been off one since. You will get used to it i promise!

I am not one to hand out to people and make them feel bad about them self or act as though i know better than them... however i learnt this lesson only after i had a problem and i see how stupid that was now. Since my girl was a 4-5 month old pup we would go for long hikes in the woods most everyday, like 2 hours in the late afternoon weekdays and 3-5 hours both Sunday and Saturday. I would go places on purpose that i could be alone for the most part and keep my dog on leash till i was in the woods a good 45 minutes. I did this not because she was a problem but because she made people in the burbs where i live very uneasy!!! One day all the sudden i came around a corner like 3 hours into the woods a place i go almost everyday and see no other dogs and another dog was right there off leash right in our face. My dog that had always been great with other dogs even off leash raised at a dog park everyday till 6 months with strange dogs freaked the fuck out charged the other dog in a split second befoer i could even react and attacked the shit outa this dog. I was able to get to them in like 10 seconds but it took me a good 5-8 minutes to get her off the other dog. Every time i would get her off she would rip outa my arms and hands she would latch back on the dog and i would have to struggle hard to get her off again. The other dog was all furry and i really dont know how bad it got hurt or not. The other dog owner was with a friend and i could tell they just wanted me to get my dog the fuck outa there, they really didnt say shit but "OMG OMG GET YOUR DOG GET YOUR DOG, PLEASE GET YOUR FUCKING DOG OMG" i picked up quick on that they just wanted me to deal with the problem and get my dogs the fuck outa there and took the opportunity. I walked calm till i got outa sight and then ran a good hour back to my car in hopes that i could beat the person back to the parking lot thinking if i gave her time to think about all this i could be in some shit and even loose my dog? I had to learn the hard way and and at the expense of another dog to a extent and maybe mine. I mean the other dog was off leash also but put a APBT in the headline and i loose. Just my two cents for what is worth... i learnt what i had been told so many times.. you never can tell if or when you dog will turn on. Since my girl wants to eat every dog in sight. I tried a for a while to socialize her with safe non DA or dom dogs of friends that knew the risk they where taking. It didnt work at all and i soon got the point that asking my dog to not be this way went against the very nature of why it had been put here in the first place. This is a big part of what made me begin to respect what these dogs had been made for and there history.

My point is my dog was always good with other dogs, like great with other dogs. This all made me think real hard about all the people whom had said to me these dogs dont belong outside of your own fenced yard off a leash at dog parks or any public place for that matter off leash. It also made me think of all the times a dog ran up on my dog outa the blue and something bad didnt happen but could of. My point is my dog has not been off a leash since this happened many months ago outside of a private fenced in yard with no other loose dogs except my other dog that i raised as a pup with her. Do yourself and your dog a favor and take this situation as a warning and dont ever let her off a leash again, when something does happen you are gonna either get in some real shit and loose your dog maybe your house?,, or at the very least feel real stupid for not listening and having to learn the hard way looking at another hurt dog that had no idea what it had comming at it. When something happens your dogs gonna end up on a leash for the rest of its life so why not start now instead of taking the chance? Yes i changes the whole dynamic of owning a dog and at times does suck for sure!!!! imop though it is well worth it and a small price to pay to own the world best fucking breed hands down. Even with all the shit i would not even own a dog if i could not own a APBT. Owning a pit bull sure seems at times to me to be a hell of a lot more work than owning most any other breed... again i wouldnt want a dog if i could not have a pit bull so i figured i had better train my dog well and put it on a fucking leash as hard as that seemed before i lost that right.

wow sorry to hear that i wold look for a park where you can have a fenced off area to take your dog like where i use to live there was a baseball diamond that we could close the gates and it wold be fenced off so i wold try and find something like that

Just get yourself a nice long lead and this will eliminate the problem. Tie the lead to your leg. Using the flirt won't be as fun as being off the leash, but we have to be responsible ApBT owners. And being that we live in CA there's a guaranteed that we'll have to deal with these damn hipster/yuppies and animal know-it-all's.

I vote long line. I have a 50 ft one my dog wears when I take him to a park or hiking trail. Joey, the potential issues that may arise from this are not worth it. Keep her leashed and if anything happens, at least you'll have a fighting chance (versus AC simply blaming you for any accident because she is off leash, despite whatever circumstances).

thanks everyone for all the responses fist and far most. I know I am not going to be going to this park during the day any longer if I really need to I will go in the very early AM where know one is present especially parents and kids since kids are back in school now. As said I have been going to another location that I usually rotate every now and then from my neighborhood park/field and this place where absolutely know takes their dogs or kids (it's just an open field with benches but it's always empty/quiet). I don't go to any other public parks here never have and the only reason I have gone to my neighborhood park is because it is right around the corner and it has the largest fields in my city, where I figure less people/dogs to worry about with so much room. I have been going to this park since she was a pup so it's been about 2 years now and this was the first time I had any problem. I always work her away from any people because I know an accident can happen especially because I take her off the lead. I don't just let her roam around that would be a different story, she is only off lead at a space where I know I have her under control while she is working then once we are done leash back on and we leave.

I could maybe understand on his part if I was just letting her run around the park or making a scene as if I don't have my dog under control and I don't usually spend anymore then 10-15 minutes doing the flirt. I actually had a guy yesterday at the other location that I always go to and will only go to from now on, stop across the street with his kids in the stroller telling me how cool and neat I am training her with the flirt and telling his kids to look at the cool doggy, just goes to show you how ignorant and idiotic people can differ.

When you live in the city it's going to be harder for you to find space when my house does not have a large enough backyard or front yard that I could work her in, which is stupid because I live in a brand new neighborhood with new houses yet small yards. This is why I have to dig through my city and find locations that I could use and these are the only two I will take her to because all the other city parks don't allow dogs so thank goodness I have my other location where absolutely nobody goes to because it's not really a park it's just a good sized grass field but thanks again evils.

seriously though, everyone is gonna have something to say about your dog, i woulda talked shit too though. i hate when dogs aren't leashed, it gives a chance of something happening and me getting blamed, even if my dog is leashed. the one who said use a long cable is the way i go. i walk her with it if i know i'm gonna play with a frisbee or a ball. i don't think i'd bring a flirt to the park lol, that's asking for trouble. just me tho.

    dont feel bad about it..
you just had some fun and dont do annything wrong in your opinion.
its just not a good idee to give anny kind of exercise to your dog when people around..
best is just you and your dog.

i know its feels verry bad and not honest to stay away, even when your dog is under good control and being no trouble. bud its the best thing to do and when you do you dont get in to situations like this and it spare you alot of energie for much more nicer thinks to worry about!!

all the best to you and your dog :)

Remind's me a lot of myself till something did happen. Not saying anything as i didnt learn till i had my own to learn from. I was very lucky though and the other dog didnt get hurt that bad and i was able to get the fuck outa there quick and make myself scarce. I didnt think about it when reading this but a flirt pole at a public park not sure that is a good idea either. Shit i will not even do that in my yard and most my all my neighbors are fine with my dogs.. the spring pole is in the basement. I get you live in the city and wanna work your dogs but you gotta be realistic. A lotta things i cant do as i live in the burbs with a small yard and small house, this is why its going on the market in the spring and i am moving to the country. Privacy and i can finally do what the fuck i want with my dogs and not worry the neighbors think i have man eating dogs cuz i keep them in tip top shape.

    Rules
    1. NO FUCKING DOG PARKS OR PUBLIC PARKS.

    2. LEASH AT ALL TIMES

    3. NO FLIRT POLES SPRING POLES TREAD MILLS OUTSIDE.

I had a friend that did all this shit in his fenced in yard and all his animals ended up with animal control for two months... cost him thousands to get em back. HE was lucky ;)!!

when you just do nothing wrong whit your dogs and give them good care and be a normel owner its no problem at all what you do in your backyard beliefe me :D (in the netherlands for sure not!!!)

just educate your neighbours tell them why you exercise like that.
let them see and maybe thy even anjoy :)

i got my springpole in my yard, got my mil in my yard, i do flirtpole in my yard, let them swim in the pole and let them play tug a war. and for sure i forget some things...

i make sure that all fun training is over before dinertime.
and i do no much noisy things in the weekends when my neighbors ar at home and not working.

it works fine!!! its just how you play your game :)

Thats the dream man.. glad to hear at least somewhere people are ok letting these dogs be dogs. Here in the good old USA these dogs dont have a very good reputation to say the least. Either people understand they are good with people and kids and a well trained dog is well within control or they HATE them and think they are all man eaters. Most my neighbors are fine with my dogs as far as i know at least they dont say anything. But its for me its kinda like the leash thing... It aint worth giving em anything t bitch about. Shit how many people have i talked to that think playing tug o war with a dog can make it Aggressive. People are stupid at least where i live int he NOrth east of the United States i am not takin my chances!!!

Joey, i found a friend in the country that allows me to work my dogs on the outskirts of my city. I would encourage you to do the same, even if u have to pay them a little something. I know how much you love your dog and I KNOW how much it would hurt you if anything happened to your dog. You are going thru the same thing that everyone else on here has already gon thru. Your dog should be treated equally to every other breed BUT im not gonna risk my dogs life to prove a point. I have seen ur love for your dog and dont want to see ur to taken away from each other, think about it...
