I rescued this dog..

Discussion in 'Rescue & Adoption' started by Wiltingbutterfly, Dec 30, 2005.

  1. Waht does Lar-San mean?

Its crazy that you said Dusty because the friend that made me think Taffy.....his name was Dusty. I think his mom would be pissed if I named my dog after her dead son.

Thanks for the ideas! I am off to get ready for our temper test this morning..

I'm loving this dog more every day!

You wouldn't be naming your dog after her dead son. Your dog's name would be totally independent & seperate from her son & was suggested on this board by someone who didn't even know her son! If she's that sensitive about it that she'd have a hissy over a dog's name it may behoove her & those around her that she be put in the care of a good therapist or support group!

As for Lar-San, it is a bloodline. You may visit Lar-San Knls here:

I think your first suggestion, Taffy, works beautifully. No one will be able to tell you what your dog is, they can guess, but without a pedigree you will never know for sure. Will you get her spayed? Please? LOL

Best wishes on her temperment test and I hope she makes you happy for many years to come.

Aww how nice of you to rescue that girl, she is pretty.
    And welcome to the forum!

  6. I will be getting her fixed. No doubt. Its obviously some stupid person who didn't do their part as a responsible pet owner and that is why Taffy is now with me. I am by no means irresponsible and I want Taffy to have a nice life from here on out-without puppies.
Taffy passed her temper test today. NOT aggresive towards humans. The trainer said she does have some dog aggresion but its mainly towards small dogs. This can be worked with and I plan on getting her into class as soon as I can. Overall the lady said that I scored and that if treated right and trained she will be a loving pet for life. You can tell Taffy has been mistreated but she just wants someone to love her-and I can't help but love her.
Taffy meet Tiffany your new Alpha bitch! LOL

  7. Thanks! There is some good info there.

As for my friends mom-she needs therapy bad but you can not help people who don't want to help themselves.

She sounds like a real sweetheart! Congrats on passing the temper test! Will your husband except the harley for the dog?.....

  10. He can "have" the Harley I "own" the pink slip.:D

You pick and choose your battles and this one is mine.

  11. I am MAD now. I want to put Taffy into obedience training so, I have been calling around. Well, I called this one lady and she told me good luck finding anyone who would be willing to train a pit bull since they are such loaded guns...WTF? She said I will not be able to find anyone who would be willing to train her. BS! I found 3 other places...maybe I should call her back and give her the numbers?.?.?.
This dog is a really nice dog, she just needs a little bit of manners.
    Mean people suck.

Taffy looks too sweet, just a word of caution, keep her out of striking distance of any other dog until you can really gauge her tolerance of other dogs. Never leave her alone with another dog. For now until I really got to know her she would only be around people. Get a good trainer so they can help you with what to expect regarding her behavior around other animals. Accidents happen very quickly...God Bless you for taking her and Good Luck to you in the future!!!!

Very nice looking dog.! It looks like a pure amstaff or APBT to me...

  14. yeah mean people do suck... yeah asinine people call our dogs "loaded guns"... just be thankful she didnt tell you "why bother training her if shes just gonna turn on you in the future".... someone told that 2 a friend of mine... well just be happy knowing that your dog is smarter then that woman :D

Loaded gun.....yes they can be, esp in the wrong hands. Bad choice of words however I'm qouting ya'll here....

If this is a case of bad manners, it is easily solved. You must be consistant say what you mean... mean what you say! Most APBT or type dogs are very Intellegent and eager to please.

Now if it's animal aggresion or learning how to handle the situation should it arise ....a group class is not where it should be addressed.

    Contact your local ADBA club.

  16. I have her set up for private sessions. I keep her away from other dogs because I know how she acts, she gets aggressive.
I don't have any plans on taking her anywhere until I learn how to control her. She is very eager to please me though. She is always by my side. She's very sweet.

She looks like a pure amstaff or APBT to me too but I will never know...

LOL your in trouble now...the breeds winning ya over. Once you've seen a "pitbulls" dedication, loyalty, and compassion its hard to not get hopelessly hooked.

Your doing the right thing so far it sounds like. She will probably be a bit dog-aggressive when mature but thats the nature of the breed, and is a small handicap considering what other credentials they bring to the table! Just treat her like a APBT and remember her old ancestors were fighting dogs so never trust her not to fight.

Taffy is a beautiful girl and I'm glad she has gotten a seemingly responsible owner. Hows the husband....are those eyes winning him over now too?

  19. Umm yes he has since put up sheet rock (SP?) and insulation in the garage and given her a MOUND of pillows and blakets to sleep with, he warms the blankets in the dryer.....(WE LIVE IN CA-ITS NOT THAT COLD) he tucks her in in the middle of the night......he wants to get her an electric blanket. I don't let her in the house yet because I have a cat and a very small set of identical twin girls. But, I think the dog is his...LOL

You're doing a great thing. I have 2 rescued apbts. They're the best. You said you live in CA, don't know what part, but check out this site, http://www.badrap.org/rescue/. It has many pit-friendly resources and great general info for people new to the breed. They are in the Bay Area. But I'm sure they would know of good trainers in other parts of the state too. I took one of my boys to a trainer they recommend and he graduated top dog of the class! Good luck with her.
