I sure wish your parents were more involved.

I was always told what to do by my parents.

They taught me all about the "grunt" work involved with the dogs and the yard was cleaned and the dogs were walked every day when we got home from school -- first thing.

They guided me, but were always in charge, something I wish we could see more of these days....

You have a lot going on there and I wish things were better for you in the parent department.

My Dad was pretty involved with Tyson for the first few months since he wasn't working so far out and mess. But then he got a job offer he had been waiting for, and poof. He went out of town, stayed gone for months at a time and when he does come home, he stays no longer than a few weeks. &&Mom is always working, plus she isn't into dogs as much. But when I did get Lady, since she was my first dog, they helped alot. I just wish my Dad had more time to help me.

But, today we are taking Tyson to the vet. I haven't told, but Tyson got into a fight with a male Lab the other day. The Lab was showing very aggressive posture and was growling at me while walking and barking, and Tyson (I had him on the leash) just stood there and the dog kept coming, and I didn't want to be right there in the middle of two large dogs fighting, so I took a step back and Tyson ran up to him and they started fighting. He has some pretty bad battle scars, maybe put a picture up soon.

  4. Sorry to hear about the accident. You did the right thing by stepping out of their way. You would have not been able to stop a fight and maybe received injuries for your attempt. You thank your boy for protecting you. Who knows what would have happened if he was not with you.

I hope that the Lab is OK and learned its lesson.

Thats one thing you'll have to worry about constantly SC. Im sure you're not bigger than a minute and if your dog is 70+lbs, thats going to be alot for you to handle. Best of luck little lady. It seems you've been welcomed with open arms here. :D Let us know if we can help you with anything. DJ.

I have actually got Tyson off of 5 dogs before (2 being help from Mom & Dad), 2 being with Lady when he was just 9 months old, one being my neighbors stupid Jack Rusell, and 2 being Labs. That one Lab has been running around here and had actually bit someone. So, yes I am very glad I had Tyson with me at the time. &&I have learnt Tyson's fighting style. He's pretty much not letting go while holding another dog, so I am usually just scared of the other dog and the injuries they can cause me.

Haha. I weigh 45 pounds more than Tyson does, and I don't even have half the muscle that he has. :p So it's a bit of trouble when I am home alone and another dog decides to wonder into the yard being aggressive.

&&I am very glad I have been welcomed here. :) I've learnt not too many places will welcome someone so young with such a big dog. They tend to want to tell me how irresponcible I am, although I take on more responsibilty than alot do.

In one of your pics I see that he has proper hardware so thats a plus. Did you put that chainout together or did your Dad? Just curious. I think it would be kinda cool for a 14 year old girl to know how to build a chainout! :)

My Dad and I both. :) He told me what to do, and I done it.

I don't know what the answer would be, but you need to think out a stratagy for keeping him under control, you can NOT have your dog going around getting into scraps, thats the sort of thing that gets the breed banned in some places.

    Umm, come again?

I'm pretty confused. Do you think I let my dog go around getting into fights? Well, I do not. Every scruffle my dog gets into, is in my backyard while he is on his chain, or he is on his lead, other than when he was younger and Lady snapped his mouth while eating. And when another dog does enter this property, I am digging my heels into the grown trying to prevent a fight.
If it wasn't for stupid neighbors, my dog wouldn't have sores on his face right now.

Penn wasnt saying that you let your dog do anything. Its just hard for someone your size to control a high drive animal when he wants at something. Don't be defensive. In all honesty, your dog shouldnt be getting into ANY "scruffles". If it happens in your yard, its time to figure out a way to keep the others out. All in due time. JMHO, DJ.

    Okay. I was pretty confused.
    I apologize.
Yes, it is hard for someone my size to control such a dog, but I think I can deal with it. Have been doing it for over a year now.

My Dad is planning on putting a fence up as soon as our 2 acres is cleared off and he gets home to do so. :)

Your dog is adorable! Having so many dogs must be a challange, never mind when they tend to be aggressive toward each other.

My experiance as a new Pitty owner was a roll-a-coster 10 years ago, not sure if you have already been thru the contraversy yet. Hope to see more of you questions in other forums.

Im sorry man, , when you say , never mind when they tend to be agressive, Is clearly not the way to think., especially with this breed. If I took the advice of nevermiding when our dogs become agressive toward each other, we'd have some dead dogs and I'd probably end up on the news. Our dogs need to be properly contained to prevent this and therfore we (responsible owners) cannot look the other way as you advised.

I really dont think he literally meant NEVER MIND. I took it as "not to mention" when they are aggressive. I don't get here often, but it is refreshing to see a young lady take on the responsibility of such a demanding breed as ours. Your dog really reminds me of one of my boys that is special to me. What do you think?
