I am just here to introduce myself. I don't need to tell everything about why I am here, not tonight anyhow. But, my name is Kelsie. I am 14 years old, I will be 15 in about 4 months. I am here to learn more about this breed, since the responcibilty of my 70 pound, dog aggressive 'Pittie' was dropped on me.
Hoping to be liked here and not have complete strangers yelling at me, like I have expirienced before when they don't know the whole story.
Here's a picture of my boy. He's an amazing dog, seriously. ^^ Loves kids, and anyone who walks in the yard. He also plays with smaller female dogs with no problems.
But yall can learn more about him later. :)

Him at about 9 months old.

Hey welcome young lady. It's very good to see someone of your age working hard to gain the knowledge and experience to own an APBT. I commend you and hope you find all that you need here. :)

    Hey, welcome...

Not sure why people would yell at you. American Pit Bull Terriers and Dog Aggression go hand in hand, so, no problems there, just be smart about it, which it seems you are since you have come here to learn. :)

  8. Welcome to the forum lil' Southerncharm! Your dogs look very nice and well care for. I hope you are careful with your APBT if he is around your other dogs. I do not want to get ahead of myself so i just hope you will come back and learn. I will keep an eye out for you. Look forward to helping you any way possible. You have a long road ahead little lady.:o

The only dog Tyson is ever around is the Chihuahua when he is outside and we are with him. Him and the Shepherd mix get along kind of. She is very dominant and so is he. So if she growls at him or snaps, he will jump on her. We're scared he will kill her so he is never around her without them both being on leashes, and there is someone there garuntee'd to know how to break the fight up. [[We have no breaking stick :o but I am looking into getting one with my babysitting money when possible]]. I have been dealing with this dog for over a year now BY MYSELF. My Mom works all day and my Dad is out of town working for months at a time, and is home for few weeks. I have learnt alot from this dog itself, but the whole breed, I DO need to learn more about and here hoping to get educated. :)

  10. Yes, you need to get TWO breaking sticks. Most likely, only one will be necessary but having a second one will not hurt. I believe they are sold in pairs anyway. The sticks and shipping should not cost you more than $30. You need to keep the Sheppard mix and APBT away from each other for sure. How old the APBT? He may not be mature yet and will get more Dog Aggressive once he is fully matured.

  12. LOL, I think that is the ones I got from a rescue group...lmao. Exactly like those. Thanks Marty for helping her out.

Just one thing....Please have an adult help you do the cutting and shaping....we would not want our new little lady getting hurt.:)

Although I normally do not believe in young adults taking on the responsibilities of canine ownership, thus far, you sound like the exception to the norm. Very refreshing to hear you coming here for guidance, instead of making the mistakes every new owner experiences. If you continue to learn, I'm sure this can be a relationship which can benefit both of you more than you could ever know.

Although it's extremely rewarding to make you're own sticks, it's probably best to simply buy some. 2 sticks, would cost around $20. I'm sure for a qualified youngster, some members would even be willing to help you out. I'd have no problems helping a new owner out, with the basic tools of APBT ownership. I'd recommend buying some, before making them. Although, that means little from me, as the first stick I ever carved up is still here. I was so excited to use it, we went coon hunting every night. Now, it's locked up safe, I doubt it will ever be anything more than a keepsake at this point. It will bring you pride, making it yourself, and knowing you're taking the steps to responsible ownerships. But on the same note, if you don't know what you're doing making or using it, it won't do you any good.

APBT's are the best teachers, the knowledge and direction they instill in you is irreplacable.

    Best of luck :)

Welcome, anyone talking about saving up money from babysitting to buy breaksticks is OK in my book. :)

I think I am old enough to cut and shape it by myself. :)

I understand why most people do not trust someone so young to have the responsibility to have a dog. But, I am more responcible than ALOT of kids my age.
And I will check around on the breaking sticks. Anywhere they might be available that you know of, other than the internet?

From what you've posted so far, it certainly sounds like you're doing the right thing.

Good places for break sticks, outside the internet, and magazines, are conformation shows. If you have any local shows, they are a great place for you to be, even if you don't purchase anything. You'll meet knowledgeable people, further bond with your animal, see the top tier of this breed, and create life-long bonds.

We don't have any local shows around here. :(
