Had to put one down :(

Had to put my family dog down this morning. Getting up there in age, lost most of his vision/sight, was noticeably harder for him to move around. With winter coming and him insisting on being an outside dog we felt it was best to put him down before the snow came so he didnt suffer through the cold Illinois winters. I had other obligations I had to be at so I wasnt able to be there when they put him down, and I feel terrible about it. This was the first one I've lost that I was really close to. I hope everyone from now on who has to put a dog down will go with so he can see you before he closes those eyes for the last time. The regret from taking that pleasure away from him on his last day is devastating. My father had to bury him alone, and the other dogs are depressed today. They ran to his kennel to play and noticed he wasnt there, then they found the fresh dirt pile, smelled it, and kind of gave me a sad look. You were my first little buddy Max, may you rest in peace in your favorite spot-we saved it just for you.

Sorry to hear of your loss.I had to do the same thing a couple years ago had to put one of my dogs down but couldnt be there when it was time.I felt bad about for the longest time.Still feel sorry for not being there for him.Well at least he's in a better place and he'll be there waiting for you.

Sounds like he lived a long happy life Always remember the good. He didn't end up suffering so you did the right thing by giving him a dignified passing. You will always have fond memories of the dog.

Sorry to hear of your loss man. Just know that he has passed through "Heaven's Doggie Door" and he is better off. I know you will miss him.

Awwwwwwww............ RIP. Sorry 14rock that the circumstances weren't ideal but you gave him the peace he needed. I dread the day I have to make that decision.

 

Sorry for your loss. We lost one of ours about a year ago. He was one of the family as I am sure yours was. May he rest in peace

 

Thanks alot everyone, it means alot to me. I would like to think he led a good life, and I'm trying now to remember the best times. For the past week he ate better than I with a big bucket of KFC 12 peice chicken and biscuits (I swear the little guy was about to explode!). Anyways, thanks for helping me to honor him as he deserved.....R.I.P. Max

I know what your feelling we just put our newest pup down 11/11.He was only 6 months.Luckly it hapend now insted of years down the road.He was the first dog I`ve seen put down.Probly the sadest thing I`ve ever seen.

You weren't meant to be there, there is a reason for everything. Maybe it would of been to hard on you. don't back whip yourself, it just wasen't meant to be. Sorry for your loss, it's obvious he had a great and happy life.
