I miss when this place was really just about the dogs and history. Way less of both nowadays. Funny how we can get a lizard people eating kids thread 0ver 90 page but can't get a decent dog or history thread up there on a damn game dog forum....

.....I guess in some respects newer history would be a touchy subject to write about openly.

Little bit of difference in “people of color” and “ colored people” lol
    Back to the dogs.
Slims post I believe is spot on.
The old man was illiterate, not being able to write he didn’t register his dogs and this allowed others who acquired dogs from him to register them as they pleased.
At least that’s what I’ve heard.

Just start something of interest concerning dogs ;)
I would even make a bet that I actually showed some more info as you ever did about Red Boy and Jockos breeding, posting handwritten peds with some info on it and so forth. What did you show or write about anything ?
All you do is ... what excactly ?
    Only blablabla and tralala ?

And slim's posts are always first class, but it's no new info. It's all here on board actually ;)
Wanna talk about Bullyson again ? :))

I ain't afraid to admit I'm a little slow. Any guesses how Kreb's dogs were bred? I know it doesn't matter in 2020, but I need a break from lmao at the conspiracy theory/ X-files thread. It says a lot about Mims breeding that the line is one of the most sought after lines without a huge hype machine behind it. That and you never really hear any secret breeding, real/fake pedigree behind his stuff either, after 60 yrs. Pretty amazing since we are in the "information" age and any fool, including myself, can spout off about dogs they never even laid eyes on.

Maybe someone can dig out the thread with all the talk about Jocko's background. That would be great. Lot's of good info to see there.
I'm done for today, maybe tomorrow.

Again, after all this time it is mostly opinion and conjecture.

I grew up on the Red Boy dogs. I believed the Colby story for a lot of years and then I even bought into the Hemphill theory for a while. I even bought into the Cotton's Bullet thinking for some time.

I'm not that much into the colors but I think it can be used as a tracer when looking back. The Colby dogs from way back carried a lot of white and and those Bullet dogs did as well. Red Boy was not the dark red a lot of the dogs that 'he is from'.

My first experiences with dogs that looked like Red Boy, same color, bigger dogs, and stupid game. Some could bite and some could not. It seemed for a stretch when they came down thru Brandi Girl they could really bite.

Then I sort of had all the theories in a ball and met a guy from yesteryear and he dropped a lot of knowledge. As i pieced things together, for me, it seemed to come together and the Krebbs theory made the most sense, especially going forward.

So many Red Boy dogs back then were like the Krebbs dogs, dumb game, rough and hard mouthed.

So many of the Red Boy dogs back then were all nite game, cotton mouth dogs who were long and spindly.

The difference being one part of the same family of dogs were from Mr. Krebbs and some were actually the Teal's Jeff and Susie dogs, both papered the same. From there the Red Boy dogs could be just about anything.

Over the years I have leaned toward the Red Boy dogs who are heavier in bone, heavier in mouth and if I can get to a brindle one I will stand on my head to make that happen.

In the past I always leaned towards the Hemphill theory. It seemed plausible with the legend and myth surrounding them. The heavier bone structure is something I have come to look for also. It is something I never really considered before, but now it is pretty high on my list.

I am going to guess no but some of those old hill people in the mountains of NC and upstate SC may know.

It would be a guess but I would guess the same make up as some of the Stidham/Cable dogs from yesteryear.

Mr. Young not many people paid to breed to his dogs as it was just cheaper to buy proven dogs and make them their own. A guy fairly well known for a dog called Panther told the same story one day and I listened intently. The funny part was I grew up referring to him as Mr. Calvin. I assumed that was his last name. The Panther guy told the same story as those Stidham/Cable/Howell type dogs are in the back of that Panther dog (some say). He told the exact same story I had been told and when we talked turns out I was using his first name only. It was actually Mr. Calvin Krebbs.

Anytime two stories are told by two different people for two different reasons and they are pretty much the same, I put a little more validity to it.

I know that Jstevens. When I'm sharing a true story i often tell to much of it. No harm meant , no harm taken. This was over 10 years ago. As B.B said and others, I will keep it about the dogs..
