I wouldn't say not to buy a pup off his breedings, I would rather take my own female to Tom for a breeding. Jmo.

Why you say that DeX? Lots of pups from that yard turned into really good dogs. I wouldn't take anything from him personally. Great breeder though hats off.

B B. Tom's a legend. Over the years he's always been very very helpful ,honest & gentleman the times I've spoken with him. Ofcourse I would feed a pup or pair from Tom. I dont want to pay the price he gets for them. Lol However he has a great line up of Bulldog's that would really click with a the right Bitch...

If you are dead set on getting one from the hill I recommend going to pick the pup yourself in person.

Absolutely. Better yet, I would personally call Tom, text him the pedigree and get his honest opinion on what Stud to take her too...

True story, Years ago my pure Colby bitch was ready to breed. I was to take her to one of Jack Colby's retired Old Mexico Colby Bulldog he had on his yard in TX. Jack asked me to have her there for the 10th -13th day in heat so we could stick her 3 days. However, Jeff Smith at Carolina game dogs had recently acquired Colby's Duke on his yard . Jeff was on board completely, Jack was understanding about the fact that Jeff is 4 hours away, instead of 2000 plus miles rd trip. So Jack said Duke was a Bulldog, yet He then t
said that he would pay for the trip for 1st & 3rd picks of the litter. I was honored, and excited. Jeff was disappointed. I told Jeff that I would look out for him with a pup, or catch up with him a year are so down the road. So on the evening before the flight my dumb ass drunk so called x girl friend who was just a roommate, decided to bring Major in my home. Long story short, Major nocked up with Raven and I was f.n. furious. I even considered getting a abortion. The Colby family didn't believe or practice bro sis breedings. However, Jeff was excited. He spoke to Tom , and put me in touch with Tom G. I texted there pedigree and told Tom there strengths and weaknesses. He said and I quote, " I'f these Bulldog's are what you say they are, These will be the Best Colby hounds that have been put down in 30 plus years in his opinion. Dam he was right! Due to a breached pup, out of 12 only 3 survived after a emergency c- section. I sold Pete Colby Sr, Molly , Rilfle went to Mr Green, Kirito went to Danny Staggs( rip) a old friend of the Colby family who owned GR. CH Beartrap in his earlier years. So the second breeding was a great success 11 pups 10 made it. I sold 2 to Jack (John R. Colby), and I sold 1 to Mr Cala, I sold Molly to Pete Colby Sr and got 3 pups from Pete off his Copper / Enaday breeding. I gave a pup to a local well known Dogmen who in turn, Doubled back and stoled the little. Dam shame. I had several deposits I had to return. Scratching Dog was getting a Lil bitch named Widow Maker. It f.n hurt too. Life goes on. Karma's a m.f. too ! I still want to do this breeding with Tom with Townsend's Raven Oden aka "The Razor " or her daughter posted below.

Good enough that the Colby family bought pups and a Adults that I was willing to let go. Truly, I can't take the credit for that success. I can take credit for raising them right. Lady Rampage, (RIP.) T.L. Weaver, MBK scorpio, John R Colby, and family the folks that bred and raised and raced pure Colby hounds for there original origin of purpose...

  15. Nice read.

Do you think the Colby dogs were mostly Irish blooded Dex?
Or do think John just liked Irish blooded dogs more?
I like Mexican dogs mate, but I’ve never owned one and probs never will.

When I read Johns pedigrees mate I see more English dogs with a Irish influence.
Perhaps I’m just seeing it wrong?

Did they ever speak with you about the English and Irish stuff mate?
Did Louis ever mention about that stuff to you mate?

  17. The Colby dogs are heavy in this dog and sure, this dog can be credited with being in most dogs..but he’s one dog.
And I think most people loose sight of this aspect..
What other dogs should we look at apart from him?
What about other dogs from other areas in the uk oppose to Staffordshire and the midlands?
    No body ever mentions those.
There’s mention on Irish dogs but what about Scottish and Welsh dogs?
Not only that but what about Duch,German,French, and the rest of Europe’s dogs?
    No body ever mentions them.

I will call both John and Pete and find out what I can . If Lou was still alive He could talk about Bulldog's and how they were bred off of memory. Good question Soze. J.p
Sent slot of his Bulldog's to Dr Emanuel Damm of Mexico
