I was on my way to the local pizza buffet and exactly one block down from my house my wife spotted two brindle emancipated dogs that obviously look like pits. So me being the guy that I am, I went back to grab them to fill up their tummys with some kibble and water. Needless to say I've become attached.
They're both males and siblings. I'm guessing they're about 3or 4 months. My problem is that tomorrow I could easily go and buy the needed equipment but I can only afford it for one so I'm in the process of making a decision of what to do because I would hate to separate them and then again I would hate to have them stay outside with no shelter and the risk of being stolen. I could really keep one but there's always a but. They don't look to be neutered and even if someone puts a sign I won't return them because of the condition I found them in so screw that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What equipment do you need for them?

Well that's still the thing because I could get the chain, axle and dog house for one, unless I'm leaving out something, but getting two of each would be a problem. I'm only planning on leaving them out during the day while I'm at work unless that's a bad idea. If I can do that I will still be afraid of someone stealing them.

Btw: This doesn't help whoever neglected these pups either but I noticed on both of them they an extensive amount of scars that are dried up so that's another reason why I wouldn't be able to let them go back to the original owner.

I really wish I had pics. One is a solid black and tan brindle and the other is a red brindle with the front two paws being white with red freckles and he has a white chest with red freckles.

Take them in & find a good home for them if you can't keep them. It'll be doing them both a good deed.

By the time I find them a good home I can probably afford to get all the equipment I need. The equipment is the only costly thing I need, but I have already started looking for them a good home. I don't want to post ads because that may draw in the wrong kind of attention. I'm probably gonna keep'em locked up in separate bathrooms for the next few days while I'm at work. That seems like my only option.

I just threw tons of old thick comforters in a corner close to the the patio door in hopes that no-one will hear them and decide to take them. It's not too cold here, but I still feel pretty bad leaving out there, but I gotta quit being such a softy for the little guys

Do you have the room and ability to crate them when you're not home?

    Lock the patio door.

I wish I wasn't so damn far away, Mark has three complete axles out of Chevy 1/2 ton trucks and another axle from a 3/4 ton truck at his grandfather's house.

Don't know if those are the kind of axles that are used though.

Well I have more than enough room for them outside but inside is the problem. Plus one of the males and my female that I've been having disagree about everything. They seem to be doing fine outside for now. If they can survive the way they are now then by Saturday I'll may be able to get two dog houses.
They were so skinny that even after they ate about 4 or 5 bowls each, their ribs and hip bones were still extremely visible. I'll get'em on a nice diet like my female once they get their weight back. Their little tummys are pokin out from the sides but they still have little bones showing so it looks funny.
I don't anything about having a yard dog. My female has always been an insider. She hates being outside for too long unless we take a road trip.

Well for that Equipment your looking at about 60 bucks. Axle's are free or 5 bucks all you gotta do is go to a junk yard or car dealership and ask for a axle and if it could be cut in half. If you do get the chain's its about 30 bucks each for a 10 ft 5/16 chain. If you dont want to spend money on a chains right now then go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some of that heavy duty rope that people use for dog leashes and get about 20ft which will cost you about 20 bucks and get some rope clamps (the things you pinch to make a loop in the rope) and get some bull snaps or any kinda snaps and your grand total will be about 25$. For a dog house i know you can find some 55 Gallon Barrels or og to a construction place and find some scrap wood to make some dog houses. You really looking at about 25$ for basic needs to keep 2 dogs. Shouldnt be to hard look at the easy side instead of the hard side of things.

Duh! I don't know if you have this down there, but my husband said try freecycle. I think the site is www.freecycle.com

We were looking for a few more black plastic 55 gallon barrels to make heavy list armor out of and found a ton of them. The guy was so happy to get rid of them that he cleaned them really good and dropped them off for us.

I've gotten rid of all kinds of stuff on there too. Baby crib, toys and games the kids outgrew, furniture, firewood etc.

The concept is that everything is free. You have to post something that you want to get rid of on there and then you can post a wanted ad.

Hey my friend. Go to Lowes Get two 4' peices of rebar, not costly four rings, four connectors, two ten foot chains and two swivel latches to hook to collars. bend the one foot of the rebar over with a ring in the fold. fold it fairly tight and drive her home hook up the gear and you will not have spent more than $35. Go to a feed supply place and get two plastic 55 gallon drums cut a 16x16'' hole in it. about $5-10 toss in some straw or wood shavings. They are not pretty but will do till you can get something more attractive. The rebar will work till you can get some axles. I have some that have never came up with out digging them out. If you have thief problems around where you live get a good 12 guage shot gun and a few boxes of buck shot. Aim center mass and you will not have any more thief problems. Teach your wife to use the shot gun too.

We do have freecycle here so I'll have to check it out tonight. I'm gonna push to have all of the equipment tomorrow and if someone wants one then I'll have to inspect their personal living situation but we all know how easy it is to get attached to these little friendly bullys

Noel-those are the types of axles needed, but probably wouldnt want to use them. If the axles are worth anything, might as well hang onto them if their not junk (bent, tweaked splines, etc). The axles out of any rear wheel drive vehicle will work, call the junkyard tell them you need two junk axles for stakes, usually they are free if they know they arent going in a vehicle.

Chains cheap, good hardware is a bit expensive, but will last awhile. I hate bullsnaps, attach an o-ring to the end, run it through the collar. No chance of coming off, same can't be said with bullsnaps. The less moving parts in something, the lesser the chance of failure. If you need detailed info on setting up two chain setups, pm me and I can help out.

If you cant afford this stuff though, its probably not in your best intrest to keep them, as food, and medical bills, and registration will be expensive. Chances are they are full of worms, and feeding them large ammounts of food is terrible for their stomach right now, you need to put weight on SLOWLY. Find a free/discounted spay/neuter program and get that out of the way first. That way if you find a good home, you dont have to worry about it.

I say that because of several reasons which should be obvious to anyone reading this except people with total negative perceptions on everything.
First of all the dogs were starved completely. Second of all they were running along a sidewalk near heavy traffic and I almost hit the red one by the way and third of all they came to me with no problem so those are obvios signs of neglect. No need to really paint a picture but I did just for you.

I'm making a list of the most recommended itmes and I'll be sure to get them tomorrow if not at least by this Saturday. I plan on having someone take them to the vet within the next few days and at least by the end of the week because I work when the vets are open so I'll need someone I can trust to take them which shouldn't be too hard.

BTW; I'll get in touch with u tomorrow evening when I have the equipment in hand.

Here is the weather for tonight. Can they make it, if not then they can go in separate bathrooms. I just didn't want torn cabinets. This piss and shit can be easily cleaned so that's not the problem.
