Be careful  or smile ;)

    A reminder... Starts in July!

Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise Insurance rates. This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken. Pass this on to everyone you know who might be affected!!!

just a thought, in this day and age of computers....

cant carmakers put a computer program into a car that reads what the posted speed limit is and limit the cars speed in that area?

the only reason i can think of that this hasnt come to fruition is that fact we get ticketed and have to pay money. if my scenario was real, which it easily could be, they would lose all that income.

  7. might as well take up walking because no one will have a license any more!

What I think is funny is how they say a "license is a privilege"...WTF....Hello freedom?

Yep, one MPH over you get a ticket, not much room for mechicanical error.

I wonder if the jammers work on this?

  10. we have the same sort of thing in UK, what a load of crap! its got nothing to do with making the roads safer, its all about making money£$£$£$£

Glad I'm not going to Illinois. 1 MPH over is way to close, the speedometer can vary by more than that.

this is nothing like the cameras in the uk.
i think you guys are missing a key point where these will be used....work zones.
and i agree- you shouldnt be speeding in a work zone. now as far as 1 MPH over getting a ticket- any lawyer worth their salt can beat that on the 1.5-3% speedometer error factor

I agree, you shouldn't be speeding through work zones,I speed sometimes but not where people are working. But I think the 1 mph thing is just unreasonable.I guess the UK has cameras everywhere.

you would hire an attorney for at least a thousand dollars to beat a 200 dollar speeding ticket? i wouldnt, and most others wouldnt. it is a money trap. they know we will pay.

IMO, cameras being placed anywhere is just a prelude to cameras being everywhere.

they have had them down here in az. for awhile now but then took them out and now they are putting them back. but they have signs put up before them as a warning

Illinois sucks at tickets. It sits between Indiana (70mph) and Missouri (70 mph) and they have some horrible speed traps when their speed limit is 65 (trust me I know.)

Ok,I just found out this is not true,Illinois does use cameras in work zones but no tickets for one MPH over.

Also, this has been passed around for 5 years....where have I been???

So be careful or smile....but not for one mile ;)

Its all about the Benjamins its no coincidence that they put it into affect right before the forth of July weekend when the workers will be off but the roads will be packed.
