Dogs Living Outside

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by APBT_Fan100, Sep 4, 2022.

  1. I've had dogs basically all my life and one of the things I've always done is have them live outside. I never saw this as an issue until I tell people that I keep my dogs outside. I live in a colder climate so during the winter months I make sure the dog houses are well insulated, and even have a setup with a heater. I've never had an issue with the cold and my dogs. I obviously adjust their diets so they have a little more weight for the colder months.

However, when I tell people this they look at me like I'm some horrible dog owner. I honestly don't give a shit but it makes me sad that people think constantly spoiling their dog is much better then actually allowing them to be a dog... People fail to understand that dogs (especially APBT's) are very resilient animals and do not need us constantly babying them. Most the people that are giving me these looks have dogs that are overweight and just completely turned into a "pet" which I find very sad.

All my dogs have been APBT's with the exception of one who is a husky/malamute mix. The setup would get to warm for him so he would leave and sit in the snow lol. What I usually tell these people is "I keep dogs, not pets" and then they look at me all confused lol.

Anyways, this isn't really an informative post or anything but more of just a rant and something I've been dealing with over the years as a dog owner.

    Thanks for reading.

It is better not to tell them anything at all, then you will not get angry looks and/or unwanted reactions.

Different world. If your dog isn't wearing a sweater and denting your couch all day your a monster. Best not to even try to change minds on it. People want them to be their kids now a days. Strange but the norm anymore.
