criteria to adopting a dog out?

I have this puppy I found and have not found his owner. At this point I need to try to place him in another home.

What do I need to do to make sure he gets a good home?

The first thing on my list is to have him fixed. I figured the new owners could pick a vet of their choice, I would drop him off and they would pick him up after he was fixed and they could pay the vet bill.

I was also thinking of visiting the new home to make sure they a had a fenced in yard, etc. And make sure they understood what it meant to have a APBT.

Any suggestions on what I should do when adopting him out? I don't want to just turn him over to the first person who comes to get him.

    Thank you, I got it.

My buddy went to the trailer park behind my house and asked if anyone knew whose dog it was. I have made a huge point of not telling anyone what kind, breed, gender, color dog I have found, I make people tell me what kind they lost. This idiot goes to the trailer park asking if they know anyone who lost a tan pitbull.

I wind up having 3 teenagers at my house saying it is their dog. I told them my buddy messed up and was not supposed to describe him like that. I need proof of ownership, pictures, vet papers, etc. They said their brother was at work and he had it. I said cool, come back and I will hand him over no problem. That was Monday, and today it is Wednesday, I do not have much hope they are coming back. Not to mention I have a sign in front of my house that says FOUND DOG. The entrance to their trailer park is like 500 feet from that sign on the same road. At some point in a week, they would have had to pass my house.

    Oh well

If your in FL check out local progams...spca does a fix a pit for free here in the Tampa area. Also Hilsborough County has low cost spay/neuter. This might help out with you/adopter getting them fixed prior to sending to a home since you might not have to put out cash.
