Canidae Grain-Free?

Just wondering if anyone's tried the new Canidae grain-free ALS? My dogs are eating it right now because Canidae sent us coupons for 20 lbs of free food, and I wasn't about to turn it down. I noticed a lightening of the stool already, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any bigger issues. We probably wont stick with it because of price, availability, and the fact that my dogs were doing excellent on TOTW Pacific Stream. But I was just curious if anyone else was liking this food.

 

They havent gotten it in yet where I buy my Canidae . . but I was considering trying it if the price wasnt horrid. . What are they charging you for it?

 

I don't really know. I told the husband to find out the price when he went to pick up the bag, and he forgot. But undoubtedly it's more than the ALS, which goes 35 lbs for $40 here.

 

I was wondering about it too..the last time I bought food they had just got in the Canidae Salmon grain free formula, and I feed TOTW pacific stream so they were similar, but it was $55 for like 30 or 35lbs I don't know the size of it. But mine are doing well on TOTW too so I don't see a need to switch as the two are very similar anyway.

 

I used to feed the original ALS until they made changes. I now feed both grain free ALS & the Salmon fomula & the dogs look great, no problems w/ stool. I also rotate w/raw. Grain free ALS is around $45 & the Salmon is around $52 both 35 lb bags,so it's pricey, but my dogs are doing great on it w/no issues. Hope this helps.

They love the Salmon formula (smells awful though), they gobble it up!

Well, we're only a few days in, and I've noticed a lighter stool and more gas in my dogs. Jury's still out. But if my husband's job doesn't start carrying the Canidae Grain-Free ALS soon, that effectively rules out us feeding it. No sense in going somewhere else when he can get TOTW at a discount where he works.

 

Hmm. . .interesting. . .

I have no real reason to feed a grain free as the dogs are doing great on the l&r canidae. . . but curiosity may overcome me. .

 

Never fed the L&R, so I can't comment. But compared to the new version of the regular ALS, the grain-free ALS is much better. The Canidae rep who sent the coupons said the grain-free was as close to the original formula as they were making.

 

How'd you get a nice coupon like that? I haven't fed the grain free, but have stuck to the normal ALS. I actually don't know if the last bag I fed was old or new formula but the bag we are on now is the new stuff, I transitioned it in just in case but haven't really seen any difference in my dogs. New dog is gassy but he's only been on it one month and fed Pedigree in the shelter before that. I'm planning to switch when my bags are gone though, the price increase and quality decrease tick me off. Probably going to TOTW or whatever of equal quality that's cheapest to ship here.

i havent tried the new canidae yet.. but heard its nothing compared to TOTW pacific stream. Canidae is good but personally i like TOTW.. Also at the moment i am trying Blue Buffalo Wilderness..
