    Very nice terriers Palooka...

Wally123, sure pats are superior to most jacks due to being shown and not worked, but there is also some jack families in tack that are as good as pats hunting...
With that being said, I would breed working dogs from working families and not a show jack to some working pats, so the examle you gave is on about most, but off considering the true objective...

Denver Wayne ,the one and only original "Thumper"(my favorite game dawg), owned a very little patterdale x jack cross for a long time.

Thanks, I know the Byrds had some similar crosses as well, maybe the same family??? Thats where this idea of the cousin cross originally spawned...

Ther will be crosses of patterdales with all other types of terriers with the hobbiest terrier man witch can result in some good 1 off working terriers but for me the only way to go with patterdales is line breeding to produce consistant workers and if I was ever to make a outcross
it whuld be patterdale to patterdale from the 2 longest worked families available if I had to use a diffrent type it whuld be a border terrier because ther the most true to type terrier but finding a old line of real working borders whuld be hard I think

Edited to say I've seen patts with a brindle cast on them what shows in certain light but I've never seen a blatent brindle

The brindle comes from the bull blood. Like it or lump it, somewhere along the line all patts have had a drop of bull added. Personally I think adding bull blood is a bad thing.

There's a TON more bulldog then a drop that's why they surpassed other terriers in the strength department. They put bulldog ATLEAST evry 5 generations back in the day. Some of those patts look like little staffybulls.I LOVE that they have bulldog blood in them but I do understand why you would not.A true little hunting terrier is a very cunning determined little bugger...! I also LOVE jrt's which are bulldog free BUT I'm looking for a good bred BULLRUSSEL,,,,half jrt half standard size ebt.

Well In my terriers pedigrees, stretching way back there isn't any bull, though I know that somewhere along the line there's been some added as is what people in the old times did.
Here in the UK the true terrier lads avoid the bull blood, we are interested in the bloodlines of out and out game working terriers that have been tested on quarry to ground. I understand in the USA there is alot more bull in them but i suppose that is down to $$$$$. maybe.

Maybe not with you, but the boys who owned the dogs before mine were trusted. And, besides, I've witnessed them six gens back myself. With my own eyes. there are mnay of us that do not like the addition of bull blood as you're diluting the working ability and nose of the working terrier. JMHO.

  11. Your right Jolene, I would take a well bred patter dale with no bull blood in it every time, like you I know fellas that can take you back generation over generation of solid working X working terrier blood , no bull blood required.
