i feel it is best to make your own crosses its the only way to make new genetics and futher evolve the breed some consider it scter bred if its not prodominant one line but could be a cross that some one has been doing from good individuals that he liked when breeding it up i always like to make some new cross some one hasnt or similar to some one else work with my own twists and tweeks i been doing it with the lonzo eli line for years now its all about good individuals :dogtongue:

I agree ManiacKennel the first male APBT I was around as a kid was scatterbred with some awesome lines in the mix and he was a great dog. Dogs that were 3x him turned out great too.

Theres is a reason why breeders of all bloodstock animals wh understand breeding and especially gamedogs ,will say its all in the breeding , so if outcrossed or scatterbred breeding was were it was at they would never say that .

Thank you TDK, I'll try to stay on topic in the future and not sling 'shit' around for the sake of it.

Maniac, I'm not too sure what you're trying to say so I've a couple of questions to better understand you.
    1) do you avoid breeding related individuals within your 'group' of dogs or is loose linebreeding as tight as it gets?
    2) do you have to constantly go outside your yard to reintroduce 'fresh' genes from similar lines or are they totally different lines?

good question pat here is how i have bred my mutts up i started with dogs i could get my hands on and then went from there but my main blood is lonzo and eli crosses with jeep and rb blood what most ppl fail to remember is jeep and red boy were 7 16ths colby blood alone as was the base of my lonzo blood stemming threw lonzo mike he was a half colby dog and lonzo also told me his best crosses were to eli dogs with his blood lets not forget some the very best dogs were 3 or 4 even 5 way crosses look at the gr ch list and then look at the rom list and keystone i know your a bloodline dead dog chaser but a good dog man told me after 4 gens of good dogs being bred to good dogs who cares what is behind that they dogs proved there selves worthy better then you can say about most tight bred half avg dogs but like i said this is just how i do thing and everyone breeds the ways they like no breeding is a given either is a breeding program its something you will have to spend many years some think breeding tight is the only way to preserve the breed its al matters of opinion but i can tell u stats dont lie look how many great dogs were not tight bred and were really good dogs
and pat yes the best way i like to breed mine are say aunts to nephews and uncles to nieces even thought about some mother son breedings as my best bitch here is a female and been thinking about breeding a good son of hers back to her my main to me its alot more about individuals like how good they were and how good they them selves can produce not all dogs can produce quality that they hold either

I think that 5 or 6 bloodlines can be the start of somthing great as long as you pick the offspring that posses the traits that you are looking for you should beable to use inbreeding to a greater extent with better results in the long run in theory

I think you should breed to the best available to you, family bred or not. It's all a gamble. Family breeding cuts down unwanted, or keys in on wanted, traits. If you the best available to you is in your "family," use it. If you can breed to a BA dog, he's producing, but NOT in your family, use it. The closer you can keep the litter the better. I like loose linebreeding myself. If I had a good one that produced a real good one I wouldn't hesitate to put the 2 together tho

Good thread and opinons Maniac. I think scatterbred dogs the best as far as health, smarts and longevity.
Taking multiple lines and weaving them together to get what you want is the recipe for success and longevity in a breeding program. The less lines behind a particular family makes me weary of reason thier bred,FANCY PAPERS
    brings FANCY PAPER...

You can breed scatter bred dogs with fancy papers as well..... People doing it everyday now

Most REAL breeders who actually have any business breeding dogs stick to a family of dogs because they like the consistency of the results.

    Good subject & opinions.
Would like to ad an opinion only & experience.

No matter how the dogs are bred that originate the family ,a line will be formed & generations will flow breeding good dog-good dog intentional or not. YOU Establish a Family.

You will create a family. How tight or loose is up to you the breeder.

The only thing needed or any body ever needs are these things to start a line .
A scratch line & a good animal that wanted it & was good @ it.
Be it hog hunting or weight pull.

"IT ALL STARTS & ENDS WITH A SCRATCH LINE".
    That's all.

It's Not or should be about how he's bred ,who yard he came off of, what they are known to do, how great some stats are, or anything thing else.

    Each dog must prove themselves.

If they work great, but if not then nothing else matters.

Some won't really work outside there own family while others will make bullshit in to barnstormers.
But the reality is that all breeders may see something lacking or have bred there families past a certain point @ one time or another & work to rebuild it back up by the outcrosses.

You have to realize that the Origional dogs from every strain are bred far looser that the end point of the strain of those same dogs.

By adding new families will restart the process so you continue the work.
Especially if they are going back to original strains that there families were based on.

Breeders also do what's called "test breeding's".
Every dog bred doesn't always go back into the main line.
Adding new lines may just be a test . Not because it's always need but for interest alone.

Your heart may want a pure family with no out crosses & some can work great with out it needing to out cross.
But the truth is not all can.
    Some have to be outcrossed.

I think having a working family dogs over ride pure family of dogs & the breeder only tries to keep his or her family going . But you still need a Family of dogs to have true knowledge about what you are feeding. Be it 1 outcross or 5 outcrosses.
