Arthritis supplements?

What do you all supplement for arthritis? One of my older dogs has it in the hips and was just wondering what you give yours as far as pain relief or anti inflammatory.

 

Ive seen the C9 stuff thats for senior aches and pains and was wondering about that also.

 

Glucosamine. Can find it most anywhere.

 

glucosamine/chondroitin/msm can get at in any health section of a grocery store. I get the the human grade stuff because you get a higher dosage for roughly the same price as the ones marketed for dogs.

 

i use salmon oil , keeps the coat and skin in great condition aswell

 

rimidril works good also

 

I don't know if you can still get it, but A horse ointment DSMO I think that was it!

 

Chicken feet. Superfood for joints. Asian markets will have them. Inexpensive. 100% natural.

I periodically make a soup. Slow boil the feet for an hour. Chill and mix some of the gelatin/collagen with kibble or whatever you feed. Some feed them raw after cleaning them.

In my view, any pet grade supplement is inferior to useless.

 

Any cordicosteriod will work too. If you can get your hands on something like injectable Hydrocortisone will help with the swelling and pain. It's not a cure but will relieve the dogs symptoms. Your vet can do the injections if you can't get a hold of any yourself.

 

One of my mom's dog has arthritis and nerve damage on his feet from a roll over car accident. I had fairly good luck supplementing with Wholistic Pet Organics in his kibble. Turmeric worked also.

I used shark cartilage once upon a time which I also found to be pretty useful.

The cartilage in chicken feet is a natural source of glucosamine, however the feet are not large enough to be used as a true supplement. Chicken/ turkey necks would have more cartilage and would likely be cheaper... However I would just as soon supplement with pills rather than rely solely on raw cartilage.
