Curious if anybody knows what type of work this dog is doing for the police department, drug detection, attack work etc? Apk's Pit Boy (ped #230634), appears to be doing some sort of K9 work for the police from the looks of the harness he has on. Im also wondering what ya'lls opinion is on our breed doing K9, specificly bite work? Myself I tend to believe bite work should be left to other dogs like the Shepard, Rottie etc. for pretty obvious reasons.

For pretty obvious reason you don´t have a clue about K9 work in general! LOL!
Putting out comments like doing harm to the breeds character is only propagated by people that won´t hit a lick in
training / educating a dog properly!
I only have K9 trained dogs all my life. Be it Bullterriers, Rottweilers or APBT and no......
They are as trustworthy as any dog can be!

I may not know as much as you claim to but to outright state i have no clue is pretty ignorant on your part doginhold! And you wanna point out where i stated that the APBT was a untrustworthy breed? Im sure this breed is more than capable of performing and excelling in this field but personally believe it will do more harm than good if the general public were to see a APBT with a human limb in its grasp. Anyways.... anyone have anything to actually add to this post? And i will once again state that i believe the bulldog should be left alone when it comes to bite work!

I think that it is a good thing that he is doing k-9 work becuz this is a good example for the breed to get a good rep..

I don't know what he's doing,to be honest i didn't look at the ped or pic or anything. But regarding bite work for the APBT,I think it's best left to other breeds.

They may be trustworthy but human aggresion isn't what the APBT was bred for and i hate to see them start going down that road.I admit that honestly I don't care for any of the breeds that are commonly seen doing bite work,German Shepards,Rottweillers etc. but IMHO there's already dogs doing that stuff, why bring the APBT into it.

I usually don't give a crap what anyone does with their dog, their dog, their business is what I usually go by.But I think far to many people care about the breeds rep with the public.I don't care what anyone thinks of my dogs but me.The public is what's killing this breed.40 years ago,the breed didn't have the problems it has today. The answer is to get back out of the public eye and screw the public, cause you'll never please them.

First of all there are some varieties:

Schutzhund doesn´t build up human agression, it´s prey drive oriented like Tug o War.
And it helps to keep control on your dog as obedience is a major part of it aswell as tracking.

KNPV and Mondioring aswell asFrench Ring ist the champions class, also has nothing to do with Human Aggression!
It´s pretty hard work and you really need to know how to train and team up!
There´s a video in the Training section of this board!

Protection work is a whole other thing!
This is ment to create a dog that does and willl bite on command or under certain circumstances!

So as you see there are plenty of varieties!
The American Pit Bullterrier is not different than any other working breed but certainly training and working your dog doesn´t hurt him nor doens´t hurt anyone else as it gives you the key for control and getting to know your dog.

Do you know what board you are on? Use the search thread, this topic has already been shook to death-As long as we are talking stupid, how about bite work for a Bird dog?? what about using a bird dog for a sled dog? or what about a using a St Bernard as a barrel dog?

biting humans should never be the focus for my dogs. They will protect there love ones.If your breeding the best man biters to each other than good luck to you but I don't want that blood.More harm than good

Popow that´s a brainwashed dumbshit comment!

Just get into know what it´s all about and then you´ll see that hitting a sleeve ain´t nothing like playing tug o war but with stricter rules as the dog has to be under your command!
That has absolutely nothing to do with Human Aggression.

A dog that is not trained or prepared would in 90 % of the cases not defend you in no way!
Or do you expect an totally unstarted and unschooled dog to excel in a fastlane match? LOL!

My cousin is training his apbt in schutzhund,AKA K9 training and out of 36 dogs all sheperds but his he has the top dog in the class as of now.. The dogs go through three or more years of traingin before thay even atempt to start traingin the dog in attacking... Most schutzhunding trainers will not even train a dog in attacking unless thay have been in traing sence thay were a pup.. By the time thay reach this leavel thay have been through so many obedince classes on and off the leash, rally, and agility classes as well as comand classes that there minds are sound enough for the attack training....In the last 100 years thers only been 20 am staffs and 41 APBT having achieved schutzhound titles in the united states if a trainer does not feel the animales are mentally sound APBT or shephard thay will not advance them... this is just what i have learnd... your more then welcome to visit the web site www.mybodyguard.com and see for your self...picks of the apbt arnt up yet but will be soon....

I don't know anything about schutzhund training. The Black Mouth Cur is very similar to the APBT physically and they seem to be more aggressive toward humans, while many game bred APBTs are shy. Without knowing exactly what schutzhund trainers are looking for, the BMC might be a good breed for that type training.
