Well its only my opinion, but if you havent dug to a dog before and you start with a green dog too, well alot of subtle things can go wrong that will leave you pissed and the dog turned off. My suggestion is to find a guy who will eventually sell you or give you a terrier after you have spent time in the field with him learning how to use the box, and the hundreds of little things that really raise the odds of your first terrier being a success. If you find guys who will sell you a terrier but won't take you out , move on til you do find that guy. Guys that are turning down a free rest with the shovel or post hole digger isnt getting his dogs out anyway. And who is to say that you like digging in the summer to hogs when its 90 and you are in the middle of a bean field, or -10 below in a ditch bank when the earth is froze like stone shooting sparks off your shovel to what turns out to be a frikking possum..... learn on some one elses dime is my suggestion.

Snootydogs, I have looked back to this forum to see if you wanted to talk anymore about the patterdales in Ohio. Did my answer put you off? Bumping this topic back to the top, the forum has been slow.

  7. no not put off at all. The reason I wanted to find a local breeder is so I can see them work in person. I tried to get up with a semi local breeder, but he didnt respond to my ??'s

check out barnburner's forum. i was able to meet two guys that weren't more than an hour drive from me that hunted together over by columbus (sort of, the marion area) and was able to go out and dig with one. never got a dog from one even though one gentleman had a working litter on the ground and offered me a 6 mo. old pup. i got enough to keep my hands full with a wife, kids, and my own mutts (two jrts and 1 apbt). definitely go out and work with some folks if you can; the gear they took with them to make sure they brought their dogs home and the time and effort involved will make you think twice before sending one of your own underground. good luck.

Maybe contact GH at CDE. He has patterdales and I'm guessing he knows working stock in Ohio.

  10. im from ohio and if i was looking for one id get one from K.G

  11. Tony Riviotta resides in Bathe Ohio, he is basically the man who first imported the patterdale into america. Tuff Terrier International or TTI is the name of his kennel. If you live in America and own a working patterdale TR is the reason, with the exception of some Cloot dogs that JR imported. I have some very good pics but I would be banned for posting them even though hunting patterdales is legal! Lmao!

  12. Be warned Tony Riviotta is a COP! So don't contact him with stupidity or loose lips!
