Abnormal swelling

Question for some of you with experience in breeding.
My females last heat she was abnormally swollen and I not speaking of her vulva I’m talking about the area’s between her anus and vulva.
I had never seen her this swollen during her 6 years of going in and out of heat.
Anyhow I bred the bitch and she aborted the only pup she was carrying confirmed by X-ray.
I do plan to take her to a reproductive specialist when she comes in again.
Just curious if any of you have seen something like this or what your thoughts are.

 

Was that her only litter the one she lost? If she never dropped anything prior that could be all sorts of issues for you. I personally don't like breeding older bitch in the summer because of the heat and added stress. Do you clear her anus glands at all?

 

This would have been her 2nd litter.
The first was 9 healthy pups no problems at all.

No, I have never cleaned her glands and don’t believe that had anything to do with the issue or it should have been an issue before and or after.

 

The area your referring to is her Perineum.

Sounds like she could have a slight prolapse perhaps?

I'm not a vet or anything just a quick opinion. I had a female many moons ago that used to prolapse and her taint would look like a walrus snout. Her prolapse was not mild though. Part of her uterus would bulge out her vag when in heat. Looked like she was trying to piss a picked egg. Anyway, early on before it became more prevalent just her taint would bulge.

 

Anal gland issue would more than likely be more noticeable around the asshole sphincter area itself more so than a swollen perineum. A vet check would be your best move either way. One of them can seriously impact any plans on you breeding the bitch again.

Prolapse never dawned on me at her age Particularly after not having any in the previous years.
Makes sense tho as her daughter who just turned 3 has finally had a heat without prolapsing and it is hereditary.
