Answer me this yall. If I take a cold dog to the dance (i know I'm stupid should've checked em first blah blah) and he does what cold dogs do wich would likely end in him being counted out. What is he? I mean we no hes a loser but what is a dog that doesn't lose game?

    It's a cold/unstarted dog.

Put it this way, if you're watching a race. One car takes off the other just stays at the line. Car that stays on the line loses. Now would you say the car that didn't go is slow or worse? Nah you'd say there's no way to tell you never saw it go.

If you match a dog that doesn't crank up. Then you lose. But you can't quit something you never started.

I understand what your saying. I look at it a little different. If it doesn't bite back they aren't started yet. If it starts and stops it's a cur.

This is a question I'd like to pose to all who view it this way. Exactly how is a cold dog better than a cur?

I ask this because I've heard many arguments of how the cold dog should be held in higher regard than the cur. Imo if we're talking gamedogs, both come up short

Depends on the cold dog, and the cur you speak of.... may not be nothing, then again it may be everything....

It's not. Just something to help people feel better when breeding. Both will produce all depends on the breeders standards.

Exactly.....most say that shit as an excuse to BREED the dog because what else can one do with a cold dog? (besides culling it?) LOL Then when that cold dog produces good there justification is that a cold dog can produce. What they dont realize is the cold dog is producing good not because its cold but because its backed up by good dogs or dogs that are known to produce through out its lineage. Even a cur that comes from a good lineage can produce good dogs but that is not the justification one should be using when trying to better there breeding program.

That's a tough analogy cause there's no contact involved.
I put it like this If a young man gets beat up and does nothing about it he a pussy /cur. It don't matter if he keep getting back up talking shit. If he don't fight back he a pussy. Now one day he starts fighting back now he's not a pussy anymore. Simple . You can't say dude socked him and he aint do shit but he aint a pussy he just never been punched b4. Combat is a 2 way street and once you get touched u started whether u like it or not you just aint ready to participate for what ever reason. If you still a pussy by adulthood you'll probly be a pussy for life or maybe you start fighting back .People can change and so can dogs .its up to the owner to decide how long they want wait for it to get its mind heart rite.if ever or just breed it and that's fine also as its they dog. I never said they cant throw good dogs but that goes for any dog game cur or otherwise.

Hindsight is 20/20 I don't mean the cold ones and curs that went on to produce. I'm talking about in general what is with the belief that cold dogs rank above curs. A dog that starts and quits is considered no good but one that never starts is ok?

Gamenes is desire to go on in action.
Resist punishment and hit back. So how dog who does not want to participate in action can be game?

You know that cur stop. For cold dog there is hope he will not if one day he start to work.

I think some would argue A really tight bread gyp, the rest of the litter be ok to better than average, a lot of old breeders would out cross to A hot male. Then again it just depends. Just hard to put A definitive answer to that. I know E. Crenshaw, Carver, and F.B. did it but your looking to create A hybread. I'm not that good at explaining it! A really tight bread gyp will a lot of times get bread there first (if late) or second heat.

Yeah but if it never starts it's no better than a cur, your losing with both. Imo there is a difference between a cold dog and an unstarted dog. When it's a year old maybe it hasn't started maybe even two or three. I can see sitting on one to a certain point to see if it is going to start, but if it never does??? Geuss what I'm saying is if a dog is cold, or cur, or doesn't start until it is four five or six shouldn't you expect a good bit of the same from the litter?

Yes it is better to said that 1 or 2 yrs. dog is unstarted. But if you have 5-6-7 yrs. old dog who is cold and he is still alive I believe there is a reason why is alive.

I suppose that dog give litter or few and you like his descendants.

I agree with Cajun. If u breed for better dogs then u have to evaluate them to see what qualities they have to contribute good or bad. How can I evaluate what a cold dog has to offer other than breed it. Cold or Cur no good at the dance but has same chance as any other dog to throw good dogs. They the same thing
