    YOU voted…WE listened!

Last fall, we asked you to vote on the date you’d like to celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day in 2014. This truly was a competition where every single vote counted. In fact, October 4 and October 25 were neck and neck, and it finally came down to ONE vote!

So, without further ado, Bless the Bullys is pleased to announce that National Pit Bull Awareness Day will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2014!

    National Pit Bull Awareness Day
(NPBAD) is a day of appreciation and education designed to change perceptions and stereotypes about pit bulls and their responsible owners. NPBAD was established to educate and foster positive communications and experiences in the communities in which we and our dogs live, and it is an initiative dedicated to restoring the image of the American Pit Bull Terrier and “pit bull type” dogs.

The most important reason to hold or participate in an event on National Pit Bull Awareness Day is that it gets us out in our very own neighborhoods and communities, talking with people and introducing our breed ambassadors to those whose only exposure to pit bulls may be via the news.

NPBAD is an opportunity to escape the confines of social media where we are, in effect, preaching to the choir to those who feel the same way about pit bulls as we do. There are a TON of wonderfully informative pit bull websites out there, but lets face it…the people we need to target aren’t visiting our websites. Personal experience is key, and positive personal experience holds much greater weight and is a powerful tool in overcoming the negative stigma attached to these incredible dogs, and changing that stigma is what NPBAD is all about.

In keeping with the National Pit Bull Awareness Day tradition, your event is entirely up to you! Have fun, be creative, educate, and make a difference right in your own community! Whatever you choose to do, please celebrate the great American pit bull terrier and educate your community about this very misunderstood breed on October 25, 2014!

We invite you to learn more about NPBAD and to register your own event by visiting www.nationalpitbullawarenessday.org.
We’ve also created a page full of tips and ideas with a strong focus on individuals not associated with groups or organizations who want to hold events.

This year, we have a special request to honor the memory of an incredible pit bull advocate we lost in 2013. Lisa Casavant passed away very unexpectedly in November 2013 due to illness. Lisa had a great love and very big heart for pit bulls, and she advocated for them tirelessly, taking every advantage to spotlight the breed whenever possible. Every year, Lisa was always the very first person to ask me the date of the next NPBAD so she could get a jump start on planning her event. I could count on her like clockwork!
Through her advocacy, Lisa made a positive impact on everyone she met, she made a difference in her community, and in the pit bull world, and those are some of the most remarkable achievements any of us can make during our time here.
Lisa’s traditional bully walk to celebrate NPBAD will be carried on by her friends in Massachusetts, and this year, the walk will be in honor of Lisa. We will provide additional information regarding the NPBAD walk to honor Lisa in eastern MA once the plans for the event have been finalized.

But even if you don’t live in Massachusetts, you can honor Lisa’s memory by wearing a red ribbon, or by adorning your bully with a red collar, bandana or harness at your NPBAD event. Lisa’s favorite color was red, and I can think of no better way to honor her memory than pit bull advocates across the entire country wearing red in remembrance and recognition of her tireless advocacy and love for pit bulls.

Finally, we know without a doubt that its YOU – pit bull advocates across the country working hard everyday, driven by the desire to change the bias and discrimination against pit bull-type dogs — that make NPBAD so successful and keeps the spirit of the National Pit Bull Awareness Campaign alive throughout the entire year! We at Bless the Bullys realize the significance of being good role models in our communities, and we appreciate all your efforts to make positive change, and are so proud that you have made NPBAD a tradition in your lives as a means to bring about positive attention to these great dogs and their responsible, loving owners all across the country on one great day.

Bless the Bullys cordially invites you to continue the tradition of celebrating the American Pit Bull Terrier with pit bull advocates across the country this National Pit Bull Awareness Day on October 25, 2014.
