1yr Old Male Pitbull Scared Of Me

Discussion in 'Training & Behavior' started by beanx, Jan 23, 2011.

  1. Really nice looking dog m8! If you got the time and the will power I would sugest you try to get with a training group. It would be a great oportunity for you bond a little more with him and to grasp some info on dog behavior. I know you said he spends lots of time with you, but there´s a big difference between spending time together and "working" together. I´m sure it would open up your mind and you two would not be the same. Maybe you can even get your gal and her dog to come along.... best of luck

  4. It seems the dog is shy and cautious of movements coming down at him from over his head. Try this for a while - when you take him off the chain or go to grab his collar bring your hand UP from under him and grab the collar under his head/neck/chin rather than on top. Some dogs perceive the hand motion coming from above as a threatening action. If you can get him off his spot by coming from underneath him you will at least have some successes to build on. Every time he comes off the spot happy and confident praise and reward the hell out of him. If he is acting scared do not scold him or try to comfort him - just ignore it. You can very easily mold a dog's behavior into the desired action by ignoring the bad and rewarding the hell out of the good.

As others said he is a young dog and sometimes they naturally hit a fear stage - also the beating probably did not help his confidence in you.

Looking at proportions from this picture. How much does he weigh and what his height at the withers?

Anyways give him time, that beating you gave him traumatized him, he might never come out of it.

    Good Luck
